Experimented with some budget store bought wines, just to see if they were even palatable.

Apothic Red - cloying, I've never wanted to dump a bottle more than this
Bogle Essential Red - not too shabby really, like a light bodied Zin

When my friends say they love this wine I just smile and nod.

It was "palatable" when it was first opened, but after a few minutes when the "fruit" or whatever flavor they're trying to pass off as fruit came out, it was just awful!

I was surprised by the Bogle though. My previous experiences with Bogle haven't been horrible, but for it to actually taste like wine (which admittedly wasn't much of an expectation) surprised me. I hear their petite syrah isn't horrible either.

Had a 2007 Pahlmeyer today. It's excellent, truly excellent, but I'm just bored of Napa.

Apothic Red should be mixed with rice bubble breakfast puffs, it tastes like strawberry syrup so would add some flavour to the brekky cereal !

Last night after a week or so off the sauce had a Piper Heidsick Champagne, for mind the best low range Champagne in the world @$34

Pretty excited. My friends are bringing out a 2005 Elyse Cabernet magnum tonight. It will be my first opportunity to try a wine with some age on it, and I know that 9 yrs really isn't that much age, but still.

Will do. When you have wines at a restaurant, do you usually ask them to decant for you (assuming you didn't bring the wine yourself and decant at home)?

Usually I bring my own and decant at home. If I buy a bottle at a restaurant, I request a decanter on the table. If they do not have a decanter, I leave.

Forgot to post but I had the 2007 Gemstone on Father's day. One of those boutique cabs I always wanted to try but it didn't wow me. A 93-94 point wine but I think my taste is just out of control and spoiled now. For a wine to impress me it takes something insane and that's kind of a bummer.

2005 Elyse Cabernet (magnum) - It was good, but not great. It probably would have helped to drink a recent vintage for comparison. Took about an hour for the nose to open up, with mostly sweet kirsch fruit scents. I couldn't pick up any secondary scents. The tannins were soft, the fruit was a little muted - expected. Probably needed even more time to open.

Enjoying the crap out of a 2004 Merryvale Profile at the moment. Barely even given it air and it's already so lush.

Invite me over and I will bring the crackers and Gruyère. LOL

You Guys are above my price range, however I once did buy $ 300.00 worth of wine ranging from 91/100 to 96/100, but in blind taste test my Wife preferred this Chianti out of the Tuscany region:

    http://www.vivino.com/wineries/fiore...s/chianti-2012

    This is a good thing, I bought 3-cases discounted to $ 7.49 a bottle

In the winter time we have wine and cheese, lasagna, or cheese fondue often and still within budget.

Beer and anything in Summer, no budget issues there

Not bumbed, spending the dollars on cars instead.

In the past we belonged to a wine club with over 60-members all working at the same Fortune 200 Company, we took turns hosting wine tasting events every 2-weeks.

We won several wine tastings using Cave Spring Wines:

    http://www.cavespringcellars.com/ori...pring-vineyard

One time it was a $ 12.89 Chardonnay going up against mainly $ 60.00 and up wines, the judges where exited about being able to taste the region and soil type this wine came from from all the subtle earthy and mineral flavors.

BTW the $ 7.49 Chianti I mention above was said to be one of the best Wines my neighbors ever had tasted, far better than anything they have bought at Sam's.

I do not believe in wasting expensive bottles of wines on those that cannot appreciate it.

In fact I gave away my NA Ice wine collection as house warming gifts (since they just do not know how to make it here, way to syrupy and sugary), it was much more appreciated by those that never had a $ 800.00 bottle of European Ice Wine (My Uncle in Germany gets them as gifts from high worth Customers since he is the only one that can tune the early M-cars to perfection) I did keep a few Canadian Ice Wines to serve to guests.

My favorite that I keep to myself since my Wife hates Port is:

    http://www.klwines.com/detail.asp?sku=1001349

I get it for $36.00 and it has a full bodied flavor I like for sipping in the evening
