Opened up a '11 Cameron Hughes Lot 339 GSM last night, my first. For $11, it was very enjoyable. Much more so than the $50 Chappellet Signature I had, although I'm starting to think I may have had an off bottle.

It was heavy on the syrah though (about 65%). I've got another budget GSM waiting to be opened that's heavier on the grenache for comparison.

Try a GSM with more Grenache in the blend.

I'm a wine N00b, but had an awesome Malbec last night. Bodega Catena I want to say was an '09 but don't recall.

    OK back to Gin.

Pride just emailed me with an allocation offer of 6 merlots and 6 cabernets. The cabs are $70. That doesn't sound like a very good deal to me.

    I think Pride is overrated.

It's a good wine but I would never buy it again.

Had some nice wines on Easter. Typical Caymus party and I'm pretty bored of it. It's a fine wine it's just that I've had a ton of it.

It was the 2011 vintage which is very nice. The other wine is the 2005 Corra. Fairly expensive but worth every penny, it's almost a perfect expression of a Napa Cab. The winemaker worked for Scarecrow and this is her own label. If you ever get a chance to try it do so.

How long did you decant the Caymus'? Better yet, how many hours do they take to open up?

The 2011 is ready to drink after an hour decant IMO.

It's not one I'm going to cellar for an extended period. 2011 is a weak vintage although Caymus did a great job with it

If you can, opt for 2012 over 2011.

Had a glass of Tercero Grenache over the weekend at Faith & Flower in LA. Don't know the vintage. First time I've had a single varietal grenache. It was very good, nice bright fruits and sturdy tannins. Reminds me of a combination of Pinot and Cab.

Had 8 bottles of Joseph Phelps Insignia, 2000 vintage, on Easter. Needed some breathing time to open but was great. Luckily it was cellared well although one of the corks disintegrated upon contact with the corkscrew

Never had issue if corks break as long as the wine is good... many of my vintage purchases have had some cork problem or other, wine is still brilliant though is the main thing

Insignia is a superb wine but the 2000 IMO is a pretty weak example of it. Still great for the vintage though.

I did not like it. Not nearly good enough for the money and Mollydooker blows it out of the water. I'd rather have their low end stuff than this.

I'd give it like an 87.

Completely agree. I have up to 2003 in the cellar but I started noticing some of my late 90s and early 2000 cabs are not holding up so I've been going for them first. I have about 5 cases of 2000 Far Niente that I got destroyed on. Every other bottle tastes like barnyard.
