I'm not a high dollar spender like the rest of you Click here to enlarge, but I just had "Incognito" by Michael David Winery. It has three of my favorite criteria:

    1. Sub $20
    2. Red blend (I've really gotten in to blends lately)
    3. Out of Lodi - it's one of my favorite regions.

Very good. I'd put it at a 90+. I also convinced my liquor store to order in the Steele Catfish Vineyard Zinfandel - can't wait to try it.

I'm gonna pass on some great advice @Sticky gave to me. Mollydooker The Boxer, Two Left Feet, and Maitre'D are all about $23.

Or Chateau Ste Michelle for some inexpensive Washington cabs.

Mollydooker is very good. Haven't had the others - I'll have to check them out. Thanks for the advice.

It's hard... HARD, to fine wine you won't spit out for $20 a bottle.

I'm nobody to judge. I spent so much money this weekend on drinks I should not be allowed to... do anything really.

I used to ONLY drink 1st growth Premier Cru, top of the wazzer Shiraz and stuff like the extremely over-rated Opus One (was good in the 90's now is just a brand name)

There are plenty of good enough wines in the $20 region if you have tried enough Click here to enlarge

    Kiwi Sauvignon Blancs etc

I am NOT a fan of Zins generally but the stuff I recomended is better than the Ridge and several "NAMES" at $40+ a pop

I have mates here who only drink stuff based on price (theirs being over $100) and trust me a lot of the stuff they buy is crap and they would have been better served buying a nice $50 Cab or Syrah or Chardonnay. I buy better wines they they do and rarely go over $55 a bottle now

I'm a pretty novice wine drinker, but in trying to discover my tastes/preferences, I've been looking at Washing Cabernets, Central Coast (Santa Barbara) Pinot & Syrah, and Australian Syrah for "deals."

@Sticky, did you go to BeerFest? What do you think about the Santa Monica WineFest?

I did go to Beerfest and I'm still recovering. What an event... my weekend was amazing.

I haven't done the wine fest yet but I think I'm going to. Plus, I really like Santa Monica.

Go with your taste... I used to drink Moselle and rot guts... what you like is what is great mate !

When I was an Air Force cadet we had a weekly contest of who could buy the cheapest drinkable flagon of wine (1 flagon = 1 gallon).......... anyway our best was a $2.29 flagon of Seppelts Riesling....... trouble is the same company sold a 1 gallon of Vinegar for $1.89

After hearing so many good things about it, was really expecting the '11 Chappallet Signature to be incredible, but it was just "good." 91.

On the other hand, the '10 Seven Hills Winery Seven Hills Vineyard was BIG. Still tannic, but what a fantastic velvety mouthfeel. 92.

Any recommendations on cabs like the Seven Hills?

It's considered a good value. It isn't mind blowing. To get something special at that price point is hard.

I'd suggest maybe you give some grenaches a try.

I paid about $50, but probably could have gotten it for closer to $43 at Winex or Hi Times. Still though, at $37, that Seven Hills was a blockbuster.

Not too familiar with that varietal. Any specific recommendations?

Thinking about picking up a few of the "Clover" cabernets by Stefania. Lots of good things said about that winery.

Yes, I recommend you get whatever these guys make: http://hermanstorywines.com/

All of their wines are amazing. All of them are under $50. You won't match in Napa for the dollar, no freaking way.

These guys are really good too but I think Herman Story is better especially for the money: http://www.villacreekstore.com/the-w...rrent-releases

You'll get a lot more taste here and you'll wonder why you spent so much time chasing after cabs.
