Definitely didn't try Goat Bubbles. There were only 4 tastings at Goat, and I seem to remember them all being their regional Pinots.

I did try the Stolpman whites. The Viogner and La Cuadrilla was nice. The blends were good too, but there were like 6 tastings there + 1 or 2 extra ones they had open. I couldn't remember them all. Most were good too, but my mouth was nearly numb after Flying Goat. lol

Yeah you should have gone Stolpman to Flying Goat.

Flying Goat is overrated a bit I'll be honest. Stolpman is not.

I regret that we didn't do it this way actually, but driving into the ghetto this is what seemed like the more logical order.

Thanks! I have to say that this trip opened my eyes to the SB Pinots, very fruit forward and very different from weak/thin Pinots I've had in the past. Also, the whites were amazing (coming from someone who almost never drinks whites). Clean and crisp without being over-oaked or cloying. Just a fantastic area.

I used to think Pinot's were watery crap. Now I prefer them to Cabs. Turns out you have to try the good ones to get it.

The area produces amazing whites. Wish you tried to the L'Avion but oh well.

I definitely did not have the L'Avion. But on Stolpman's website, it's only listed in the archive wines. Plus, I don't think I had a roussane until I got to Jaffurs on day 2.

The Enchanted Path is right in the perfect sweet spot for a Cab Shiraz... magnificent and I finally brushed off my anti Mollydooker snobbery... thsi was a magical wine almost perfect

Lush, bold, fruity, smooth perfect tannins... 97/100

The Stella's Garden was 1/2 the price of the $85 Enchanted Path and compared well but I have overrated this at 97/100... for my tastes it is a solid 94.5/100

    Tonight I am trying a cheap 2010 Mollydooker Cabernet (24.99) and comparing that to a 2001 Wynns Coonawarra ($34.99) which I rate a 91/100

Everything Mollydooker is good. EVERYTHING. I've never come across a winery with such a solid lineup top to bottom. Their stuff is badass.

The MollyDooker cab to get if you just want a straight cab is the Gigglepot.

    You're probably right.

Ampelos confirmed my membership. I'm already thinking about joining more clubs and where I wanna go next.

Gotta pick up a Gigglepot and Enchanted Path. Hearing you guys talk about those is making me salivate.

I'll drink anything if it's good. And boy do I like to be proven wrong when something like the Pinots I had in SB can change my entire opinion about a varietal.

@Sticky has way more experience with SB wines than I do. Here are my submissions for your consideration.

Just learned an interesting tidbit. Don Schroeder, the winemaker at Sea Smoke, is the son of Peter/Rebecca Work, the winemaker/owners at Ampelos.

Just one of the places I visited. Joined their club as well. They also do a pretty good pinot. I guess Don Schroeder's winemaking style rubs off on mom and dad.
