It varies, depends on what mood I'm in and what varietal of red.

Right now, I'm liking really big wines like the MollyDooker Enchanted Path or the Montes Purple Angel. These are new world, smack you in the face with flavor and push the grapes to the limit wines. Big, bold, delicious. Mollydooker has stuff for any price range, from ~$20 to over $300+ and it is all good, give it a shot.

ok. ill start around $20. i just see it as spending beer or liquor $ for a better wine.
I've had some very fancy wines that were just too dry for my taste. i need a good wine steward to help me out

    this gives me some ideas.

My ex was Japanese..all her friends drank wine and a LOT of it...but that has since changed. I need to find a crew that likes to go out and do this around here. Problem is we are all trying to survive on long island lol

WA means Wine Advocate, which is Robert Parker, the most powerful wine critic in the world. His ratings can make or break someone. A 100 point score from him can make you a millionaire. His scores on Bordeaux vintages influence the pricing of the entire vintage, setting the bar for everyone. Due to this, some French winemakers have even offered him their daughters for a good score.

This story is kind of funny, but when Mr. Parker visited a wine maker in France who he gave a low score to, the guy let his dog loose on him. When Robert Parker asked for bandages for his legs to stop the bleeding from the dog's bites, he was given a copy of the review he wrote instead.

nowhere near tired and I've been awake for over 36 hours. no alcohol or beer today. last night I sipped a 750ml shiraz but that didn't do the trick.

I'm going to have all kinds of cancer later on in life, but at least i have some threads to show for it.

Just a tip, if you liked this wine, try other wines from Santa Barbara. This is just my opinion. but I think you will find most people will agree with it, the wine coming out of Santa Ynez is the greatest value in all of California.

If you enjoyed that, do yourself a favor and try the 2007, like a whole new wine.

Pinot takes time to appreciate, I used to hate it. Would like to hear you thoughts on it.

Heh, the Layer Cake Shiraz is excellent for the money. Costco for about 14 bucks, can't beat it for that price. Best example of Shiraz for under $15 bucks.

This is just extra info, but they put it into used French Oak barrels. French Oak is expensive so you are still getting a quality oak flavoring but at a value price. Also, one of the winemakers for Layer Cake is Philippe Melka, who makes insanely good wine. Completely different pricing, but you are getting a guy who makes $120+ wine (Melka Metisse) for bargain pricing.

Oh, also forgot to add, the guy who owns Layer Cake also owns Hundred Acre. Hundred Acre is like top of the line Napa Cab so all the used barrels from that get tossed to Layer Cake. So, that is why it is such a good value.

Hmm not sure if I should start another thread for this but. Do any of you like a good Cognac or scotch/whiskey?

I bought a bottle of this Cognac recently. Remy Martin Cognac Louis XIII

Who cares what thread you put it in, this is fine.

I'm not big on Cognac. I do like it mixed but I get weird looks from older people when I take a high end coganc and mix it. Probably the same way I would look at someone putting ice cubes in their white wine.
