    Headers Swap

Alright guys & gals dropped off my car at Max Psi to have headers installed today. Chatting with Mike R he said most stock s54's dyno at 250-260whp.

Not bad for a 163k mile s54. I guess the recent tune up, valve adjustment, and Beisans vano's upgrade paid off.

The AP headers are in, and tuning will begin shortly. I should have a dyno with no tune, and then tuned. RK tuning will be tuning the car.

Correct. This may all be done tomorrow, but that depends on how bad everyone's hangover is after tonight. Click here to enlarge

Funny thing is they are open, and my tuner is willing to get it done. Thats customer service for ya. If they decided not to at the last min I wouldn't care.

    Bump.

Well Max Psi, and RK tunes got everything buttoned up. Here are the results. Keep in mind I snapped pics with my cell, but I will get better images of the graphs at a later date.

Here is where we started out

    Headers installed with no tuning.

    Now after tune.

Here are all 3 runs side by side.

Car drives great, and pulls much harder to redline. To put things in perspective another car with a csl intake, and headers made 301whp on the same dyno. About 7 or so whp more then my car. I'm impressed to say the least.

You came out with another 30 naturally aspirated horses. That's awesome man.

Now maybe do that CSL box or cams... or both!

I do not think I will go with a CSL. 2,500 isn't worth it to me. I wouldn't mind doing cams in the future. I'm interested to see if any gains can be had with a different section 1/2/3 on the exhaust.

You can get it for cheaper than that I would think with reproductions.

Looking forward to seeing what you do next.

Thanks. Unless someone makes that CSL intake for under 1000 I'll never buy it LOL. The REP CSL intakes are 2000-2500. Cams 1600. That's a used SC kit. Plus labor for cams? Not cheap. At that point I might as well go turbo lol, and believe me Mike has tossed me the keys to his car a few times. What an awesome kit that is.

Well I mean if you don't plan to stay NA then yes of course. The stock DME tuned kit is sick if you want that kind of power.

I do not think I will go turbo unless something drastic happens. I would like to stay N/A, and maybe add some exhaust parts. I have Max Psi do some custom stuff, or go to a proven route. Thats sometime away. Next up is fan clutch, and front struts. Then in the spring some HPDE's, and a pass or 2 on a dynojet for fun. I would like to do a rebuild in the future with schricks 288/280's. Maybe Vac would like to semi sponsor me. Click here to enlarge

I as well. I'm wondering what improvements can be made to my exhaust setup without making the car drone?

That's some awesome results man. 30 whp from headers and tune, that's like a downpipe and tune for the GTI mention above LOL.

Does the motor need to be dropped a little in order to install the headers on an e46m3?

Nope. By the way guys RK did the following with the tune.

    Sport mode on memory

    Cold Start Delete

    Top limiter removed

    Shift lights

    Alpha N

Air intake temp sensor relocate to the front of the air box.
