    BMW getting ready to respond to the new S-Class with lighter and meaner next generation 2015 7-Series - Spyphotos

    The current BMW 7-Series is an absolutely beautiful car but it does not measure up to its competitors in several key areas. The main one is performance as BMW has no answer for the 2014 S63 AMG or the Audi S8. Even against the standard V8 models the 750 is found to be a bit lacking just due to its immense heft. The good news is BMW is aiming to cut the curb weight from 4200+ depending on options to the 3700 range for the base rear wheel drive model.

    Essentially, BMW is hoping to cut about 500 pounds from the car. Will that happen? It is an ambitious goal but BMW is showing with the new M3/M4 that they are getting serious about trimming the fat. We can at least be certain it will be lighter than the current model.

    It is also looking increasingly more likely that an M7 will come with this next generation car. This new 7-Series should address all complaints with the current model and offer strong competition. Spyphotos below.

    The S-class is so far ahead in this class it isn't even funny. The technology in the new S-class is just crazy. BMW will need a lot more than performance numbers.

    The G11, I think, of the upcoming 7 Series will usher in a new technologies to mass production cars.

    It will have extensive use of carbon fiber in it's production. The new 7 will leverage carbon fiber for many components, and will have ssignificant weight savings. This approach will highlight the SGL/BMW carbon fiber plant in Lake Moses, Washington.

    Daimler has used the current S-Class for two things;
    1) with the demise of Maybach, they had more resources to devote to it.
    2) Daimler wanted to roll 7's and claim its "rightful" spot atop the Executive Sedan Class.

    They did an excellent job with the new S-Class. It's the flagship, so it should have everything in it. BMW will answer, and it will be good. But the people that will buy them are driven by different parameters, and not technology to make a purchase.

    I am very excited for this, can't wait to see them get back on top in the full size sedan game. And with an M7...this is gonna be good.
