Dinan launches their performance product line for the E82 1M - Software, intercooler, suspension, etc.

Dinan has launched their full product line for the E82 1M. The timing is a little late but launching during the holidays certainly will help sales. So what are the products? Dinan has developed an intercooler, oil cooler, intake, sway bars, monoball kit, coilovers, and Stage 3 engine software all specifically for the 1M. BimmerBoost members will be quick to point out these parts are all already available for the 1M from others and likely for less money than Dinan charges.

With Dinan though you know you will get parts that have been tested and engineered to a high standard and Dinan will also provide their own warranty. For some reason there are those out there who think the Dinan parts do not void the BMW warranty but they do. Dinan provides their own warranty in place of the BMW factory warranty.

For those concerned about such things Dinan is a great option and clearly has a market. Full press release and photos below.

(Morgan Hill, Calif.) – December 12, 2013 - The BMW 1M is very special vehicle with them only being manufactured one year in 2011. The team at Dinan felt this car deserved more from the aftermarket to make each 1M even more unique and more powerful, and now have launched a complete array of parts to give the smallest M-Car more power and added suspension performance.

The first of the new 1M modifications is Dinan’s Carbon fiber Cold Air intake. To maximize power output from the 3.0L turbo-charged six-cylinder, employs a hand-crafted carbon fiber unit that also features a secondary carbon fiber intake tube that captures cool air from the lower grill and includes shielding for the conical filter to insulate it from power robbing engine compartment heat. The system is so effective that the inlet air temperature is a
full 40 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than the incoming air from the stock inlet.

Aiding in the goal to keep air temperatures down, Dinan has also released its High Performance intercooler for the E82. The Dinan intercooler provides a 93% increase in total volume, substantially reducing the pressure drop by 0.7 psi, as well as providing more efficient heat exchange. "Cool down" time is also reduced, enabling the car to produce full power under varying driving conditions such as stop and go traffic. The system has been engineered as a direct replacement for the stock unit, requiring only minor modifications for a clean, factory-like installation. The intercooler also features larger connector tubing and custom shrouding for maximum efficiency and turbo reliability. The new 1M intercooler may also be used in conjunction with the Dinan oil cooler and Stage 3 Engine Software with increased boost pressure to take advantage of the improved intercooler efficiency.

Dinan is known for its extensive knowledge of how to properly and safely tune BMW’s factory computer. The new 1M Stage 3 Performance Engine Software safely increases turbo-boost pressure and is optimized to take full advantage of the Dinan High Performance Intercooler. With a peak horsepower of 398 at 5700 rpm and peak torque of 429 lb-ft at 4300 rpm (as tested with the Dinan High Capacity Oil Cooler System and Dinan Free Flow Exhaust), this package makes for a monumental increase in power over the stock 335 horsepower and 370 (with overboost) lb-ft of torque.

With added horsepower and torque, having a more aggressive suspension setup is key. Dinan’s Racing Coilover suspension is designed to work in unison with your BMW’s factory Electronic Damper Control (EDC) and allows the driver to adjust to their preferred ride height. Dinan provides Beehive shaped front springs and low profile camber plates with progressive bump stops that allow the car to be lowered up to 3/4” and still maintain stock suspension travel. Dinan Quiet Design™ Camber plates make it the quietest coil-over suspension on the market and suspension packers are included to fine tune handling and comfort by changing the clearance of the progressive bump-stops. Camber is easy to adjust thanks to the slotted front mounts and is adjustable between -1.2 to -3.2 degrees.

Complimenting Dinan’s coilover system is the Lightweight Tubular Adjustable Front Anti-Roll Bar. Dinan’s bar is 42% lighter than a solid anti-roll bar of comparable stiffness. This anti-roll bar is adjustable from 50% to 90% stiffer than the stock bar, with 3 positions on the bar and end links that are left and right hand threaded for easy adjustment.

The final addition to the 1M suspension upgrade lineup is Dinan’s monoball kit. This kit replaces the factory rubber bushings with precision ball joints and machined aluminum housings. Responsiveness is further improved by eliminating the deflection inherent in the stock rubber bushings while also reducing brake shimmy. The quietest bearings on the market are virtually noise free so you can live with them everyday.

“Our 1M R&D vehicle has been an exciting build and we’re thrilled to have a big lineup of parts for the car,” said Dinan Engineering President, Steve Dinan. “1M owners are now able to make more horsepower and torque, while still having a reliable vehicle, backed by our factory matching warranty.”Every Dinan product comes with our factory matching new car warranty and is designed and tested in Morgan Hill, California and can be purchased and installed at any Dinan Approved BMW dealerships nationwide. Too late for Dinan to get in on the 1M IMO. Too many WAY better options out there for 1/3 the price.

The parts look nice, albeit typical high Dinan pricing. Appears to be well executed though, perhaps better designed than what else is available.

6,342 worldwide, not counting ones totaled out. 740 in the US, we got shorted since BMW couldn't sell the car here as a MY2012.

@Sticky yes I have. I just wanted to make it clear. Does dinan only warranty their parts or all the stuff that BMW would cover. It's pretty normal for any car company to warranty their own products. If they didn't they wouldn't be in business... lol

Honestly, the only thing worthwhile are the CF Intake & Suspension. But if you go beyond stock turbos, the Intake will probably become a restriction (closed element) and there are already better Race Suspensions on the market, ex: Ohlins.

There's a difference between a warranty on hardware, like if a supercharger breaks down on a kit Vortech will cover it, or a warranty on the engine/powertrain. Dinan will cover the rest of the BMW warranty but BMW due to the Magnuson Moss act would have to cover their parts not affected by any of the Dinan parts like say brake rotors, wires, windshield wipers, etc.

Dinan will warranty the powertrain by supplanting the remainder of the BMW warranty with their own.

that CF intake looks mint.. but ...

    $1300...

and i was intrigued by the bushings until..

    $650...

    vs

    $390 from HPA RE..

and their 'non-M' stage 3 suspension is.. $2600 with front sway, and not coilovers.. which $400 or so more would get you ohlins

    oops found the 1M

$2500 no sway, but at least it becomes height adjustable.. no dampers either. holy $#@! that stings.

Honestly, how many people run much Dinan hardware here? I don't get the sense it's many. Then you slap a truly arbitrary $400 tax on it? Obviously there is a demand for this, but I think that's cray.

People here want max performance and that isn't the Dinan market.

Dinan doesn't even have a blower for the S65 for example. Their stroker motor would get trounced for less $. Same with these parts in the N54 scene.

I can handle most of their stuff being expensive.. they have solid product development, the warranty stuff, and well.. it's expensive, there are other options for better value, but whatever, some people like the brand name more than anything. I think people are crazy for buying it usually, almost like my opinion of APR stuff, but whatever!

But when the intakes on non-M and 1M are the same, that $400 is just outright insulting.. It's not just regular BMW tax, it's ///M tax on top of that!

I have a lot of respect for DINAN. They are a founder of the BMW performance scene and they really have a team of engineers and fabricators IN HOUSE where they make just about everything. Their carbon and damper suppliers are world leading, I've been to both of their factories.

The monoball units are not like Rogue's at all - they are more street friendly and will 'last' much longer.

Also, their target consumer generally does not have time to post on forums. They may lurk, but they are more likely to read the NY Times and see the DINAN ads there. The executive level buys DINAN. That said, they are expensive but some people want that comfort.

Our biggest product line is pistons and we stock and sell CP above all. They are not the cheapest but we know they will be 100% every single time.
