That sucks. You think they would be good given they are the #2 automotive turbo manufacture in the world. Having them spool too quick is what I was hoping for Click here to enlarge

Garrett all the way. The EFR's have shown to provide limited gains in spool and power, but its offset as I also have heard of quite a few problems. We chose Garrett for the Stage 3, N55, and are doing similar upgrades for the N63, and N20 coming up as well for a reason. Its hard to go wrong with what that proven CHRA Garrett provides, not to mention the small size, and VAST array of housings styles and sizes you can use for the same CHRA. It also looks like we will be getting back our Garrett master distributor license soon. Looking forward to it.

Just wondering, since you left out the Stage 2 hybrids for the N54, what is used on those if not Garrett?

They wont fit, this is where the ASR bs ball bearing stock frame upgrade comes from. Any Garrett BB CHRA will even come close to fitting in the stock frames. They fit a GT15 CHRA in there, which have never and will never be offered in ball bearing. Going Garrett Turbo in the N54 is basically stage 3, if you want twins.

at least on paper - the 9180's being used on indy or whatever should speak well enough for their reliability? Oh and the fastest WTAC cars as far as i know... They're just not as well tested in the public world, unlike garrets :/

ooh? wonder how the spool, that S400 looks like it has an insane power range?

looks like it's supposed to be a step down from EFR?

I bet it spools super slow. Given we don't rev out high i think it wouldn't be a good choice...you are right they are a step backwards in terms of technology. Seems inexpensive for the power though. I would prefer an EFR...

Here is a dyno from a supra. not apples to apples but it gives you an idea, from full race's website:

Garrett uses some high quality parts, the shafts on turbonetics turbos however are easily the strongest, as they are probably on average double the thickness lol. Turbonetics and Garrett are pretty much all I looked at. Well, I went Forced Performance, but it's a Garrett based rebuilt turbo...too bad I probably won't see it now until after Christmas... ANY aftermarket turbo maker that produces their own line of turbos started off with Garrett clones, and most of them, that is still what they offer, sure they throw their own twist on them, CEA, Triplex bearings, Turbonetics "big shaft", etc. Bottom line Garrett is the roots all these turbos sprout from. Turbonetics was one of the first back in the 70's. In my eyes, if prices are similar I am always going Garrett if possible. By this I mean the CHRA, with the wide range of housings available from many sources that will fit, you can go nuts with fitment. Those EFR's are just too damn big.

That's exactly what I've found, turbonetics is a great option for less money, usually doesn't quite spool as quick. BW I also found to be pretty bulky, just didn't see anything that sparked my fancy, and Precision just seemed like a cheap knock-off of Garrett, no lie though they make power! lol

BTW, was hoping you'd chime in, and glad you did.

As far as the PTF turbo kit goes, i hope having the guys from PTF reside in Canada will make it easier for us Canadians to get a hold of an ST kit without dealing with shipping from the states and all that jazz. excited to see what they release.
