An interview with CP-E (Custom Performance Engineering) regarding their N54 turbo turbo upgrade kit at SEMA 2013

Yes it is still coming and here is the proof. What you will see below are pictures and a discussion about the CP-E (Custom Performance Engineering) BMW N54 twin turbo upgrade kit. Pricing has not yet been set hence why the rampant speculation on the forums regarding this upgrade was unwarranted. What can be said is this kit will cost over $10k. How much over $10k is up in the air but that figure will also depend on options.

An option for example is a port injection supplemental fuel system. The fuel system is not included with the kit. Tuning will be handled by COBB although other tuning options will come later for this setup. How much power this makes will be limited by supporting mods and things such as the fuel system. N54 aficionados already know what the stock fuel system can support so if one wants more power than what the stock fuel system supports which the turbos can support the fuel system option will be needed.

The current expected ETA of completion is by January, 2014. For further details please listen to the interview video below.

*Yes I realize there is no video. I just wanted to put this up so you guys don't think I'm holding out on you for no reason or being lazy. I am waiting on CP-E to approve the video at which point the video link will be edited in and this will be front-paged.

    Thanks sticky! Kit looks sick!

By the way is it supposed to be customer performance engineering? Or custom?

Really is a gorgeous kit, looks like a couple sharp turns in the piping, but overall very clean and looks like it will flow like crazy, can't wait to see numbers, but I think the reliability and build quality is what will sell the kit

Custom. That extra R in the body was a typo.

Beautiful kit! Someone will buy it. The kit looks to have great quality. Just looking at the kit makes me think motors are going to be blown and many are going to have to be built. Thanx Sticky for this heads up! Going over and above! Nice!

@Sticky thanks for getting this info. It's nice to see some quality pics up.

What trans is that? Is this an XI setup?

That that this isn't good news but other than hardware it sounds like they have no clue where they are going. Cobb, Custom CAN controller, Sequential maybe batch? I'm now more interested in finding out if a new manifold is the works for their fueling issue or if they are trying to pull it off with an injector spacing plate.

The cp-e rep in the video briefly mentions a new manifold for supplemental fuel injection.

What a gorgeous piece of engineering. Thanks for the interview and the coverage of this kit.

It sounds like they're gonna offer multiple tuning solutions... The 1st option will be COBB AP paired with an Electronic Boost Controller, then after some development (probably sourcing a reliable DI driver) they'll offer a Standalone EMS. But once it's been developed with COBB + an EBC, you could probably do it with the BB Flash + Piggy, so long as the software's been written into the JB4/PROcede.

+1 for their fueling system, he mentioned something about a top hat in passing but it sounds like a solid/OEM-like LPFP upgrade.

I bit my tongue because they are a paying vendor. You aren't. Still the point is about tunability.

makes me hate having a right hand drive car even more knowing there's no chance in hell of fitting that! Hahaha

Luckily the price would probably drive me away anyway lol

When I heard him say that I was ready for a counterargument haha.

It seemed like he was referring more to the cars place in the market and the ease of modding the platform provides, not the technical aspects of the engine itself.

Good interview! This kit looks well done and should really set the bar for upgraded turbos on the n54. It won't be the cheapest but if they can pull off the oem fitment/reliability,they will have a winner. The upgraded fuel system is very interesting... Congrats to CPe for pushing the n54 platform forward
