I was in Michigan over the weekend on a trip, and in Holland, I was taking a picture of some girl that just got married - and heard something out of the corner of my ... umm ear. It sounded special. I turned, and there was an older gentleman in an F10 M5 - I was surprised; it sounded A LOT better than I thought they would sound. I honestly don't know why they pumped sound into the cabin, it's ridiculous - it sounds different than ANY stock car - and for a turbo car, sounded good IMO. It's by no means an E60 with a V10 that revs out to infinity, but was pretty good is my point. Click here to enlarge

F10 sounds ok, a muffler delete helps a lot.

AMG does the best work with their exhaust on turbo cars. Even the CLA45 sounds good somehow.

    M5 sound off - E39 M5 versus E60 M5 versus F10 M5 exhaust note comparison

The F10 M5 is the newest model out of the bunch here but considering the exhaust note quality of the preceding M5's the bar is set pretty high for it to match. Especially considering the turbos on the S63TU V8 muffle the exhaust note a bit. That has been one of the main criticisms of the F10 M5 as the stock exhaust note sounds tiny and BMW themselves is addressing the exhaust with an optional revised performance exhaust system available.

We have seen the F10 M5 compared to the E60 M5 before regarding the sound quality but now the E39 M5 is thrown into the mix as well. Which sounds the best? That is it up to you to decide but BimmerBoost's ranking goes E60 M5 S85 V10 > E39 M5 S62 V8 > F10 M5 S63TU V8. To be fair the E60 M5 looks like it is sporting an aftermarket exhaust courtesy of Eisenmann as the oval exhaust tips show.

    Enjoy.

Not really fair though. The F10 needs an aftermarket exhaust too.

I have heard a F10 with the Turner rear section (basically a muffler delete). It still wasn't impressive. An E60 with a muffler delete is f*cking amazing.

E39 muffler delete sounds like a muscle car, e60 muffler delete sounds like a f1 race car, f10 muffler delete sounds loud for no reason and is just noise

sorry to say but nothing impressive in this sound, its loud ok, but thats it. An actual M3 with a proper exhaust sounds better.

for a better understanding what i meant when saying F1 feelings:

the f10M5 surely has his pros, but for sure not the sound. its a low revving turbo with less displacement and missing 2 cylinders compared to the old M5. You cant expect "much" from the f10 when you put them side by side.

Straight pipe ANY ///M car e9x and older and it sounds like the race car it was meant to be. This however sounds like sh!t. It sounds like those cars you see on the road with a hole in the exhaust or something like that. All these new ///M cars sound like crap (1m sounds ok)

Sounds way, way better. I love RPI's stuff. Had their exhaust on my M3.

    Not S85 good though.
