    BB Flash DAF/Map Error

Anyone had this error with the BB flash? Had worked flawlessly until now... but got a MAP error at the end of one of my writes last night. Now the car won't start and I can't flash it back to stock. No matter what I do... reset the ecu, hook up two different battery chargers, hook up jumper cables, I can't get a voltage reading or start the flash. Any help is much appreciated. It was hooked up to the charger during the write, Click here to enlargeClick here to enlarge

Do you have any logs from the write attempts? DCAN or K-line?

Ensure it has a 40 amp charger on it, unplug negative battery cable for 5 min, and keep trying until it works.

Should I be worried without a charger to change maps?

It's suggested on 2007 models but you can always roll the dice without one. Just do it at home so you're not stranded. Click here to enlarge

ECU is in recovery mode, but I still can't get a voltage reading in order to flash the stock bin back.

No matter what I tried, the flash would not authenticate and start the process... I assumed because the voltage always read 0. I probably tried 100 times over the course of the day. Wedge helped me flash the ECU back to stock with WinKFP.... awesome guy and I would highly recommend contacting him if you have a similar error.

Going to proceed very cautiously with any more flashes...

I usually don't get a battery voltage on my '07 but it flashes fine. When I do get a voltage (very rare), the other information is usually effed up like it only shows a 6 digit VIN. I do get the same error "unable to authenticate with control module" almost every time when I try to use my laptop.

My fix was an old AMD desktop from 2003ish running windows XP. Drug it to my garage and it's now my dedicated flashing box. Previously it was helping to anchor my house in case of hurricanes from the closet. I suggest finding an AMD computer, they seem to play nicer with 2007 cars.

Im 100% sure its not related to voltage, as i flashed my car several times with 0 voltage.
    here are few tips:
    - make sure you connect your charger.
    - clear the log before flashing, its good practice as log file get bigger after few flashes
    - since you flash it with Winkfp so I assume you have the latest software which they used to create tuned files. Unless you flash it with current file without updating (2)
    - you need to re-read your ecu.
    - if you used winkfp and flash your ecu to back to current software without updating then i recommend to use TunerPro and copy all defined items from tuned file in to your stock bin. remember once you are done use "SAVE AS" to make new file and keep stock bin untouched. then use it (that's work for me since my ecu is not updated)
    - if you used winkfp to update ecu to latest software then it must be ok to use any tuned file (did not work with me and give same error DAF/Map Error)
    - you can use force write under advance tap to kick your ECU out of recovery mode, either by stock or tuned files

That picture right there is exactly what mine does sometimes. Messed up info. But usually when I get the messed up info, I get a voltage.

Let me guess, you have an '07 K-Line car and you're using an Intel computer?

My suggestion- find an AMD computer. I really hate saying that sentence because AMD has really gotten trampled by Intel the past few years, but it seems like you have about a >75% chance of AMD computers working and a <25% chance of Intel computers working. It's really just a 2007/K-Line thing it seems.

Sometimes it takes a few tries. I've found the bimmerboost version of the software to work better for me on the AMD computer for writes, whereas the BMS version is the only one that even seems to talk to the DME on my intel box. Neither version works well on the intel box but the BMS version is the only one that will even initiate a 6-hour read process (yeah right I'm not waiting). Good luck and remember that this is still all beta software so YMMV and logs are appreciated.

You're right brotha, it is intel. All my laptops at home are intel so it looks like I might just be $#@! out of luck. I'm gonna try it out a couple more times tomorrow. If it doesn't work then I guess it looks like I'll sell the cable and go back to the regular jb4.

Unfortunately, both of my laptops are intel. I never had an issue... read and wrote on the first try and have probably done 10-15 partial writes without any issue, now all of a sudden it won't connect at all.

Since flashing with WinKFP I have not been able to do a read on the car. Same laptop.... I wonder if there is something that has changed with my configuration. Doesn't make sense why it would work flawlessly the first 20 times, and now not at all.

It's sketchy on the 2007 cars for sure. I tried 6 Intel laptops, no dice, but some people have had success. Two AMD computers worked fine and many people have had similar success. The newer cars don't have this issue.

The only other things I've noticed are battery voltage is important and sometimes it just takes some toying with on the 07, but it is definitely odd that you used to have success and now it doesn't work after winkfp. Can you post the log file?

There is a log posted above. Since flashing with WinKFP, I haven't been able to get a full read on the ECU... so I haven't even attempted to do a write, and thus no log. The read looks like it's starting, but then it says 600 minutes remaining and I abort. I figure if it can't read, the write isn't going to be successful and I don't want to go through that fun again. 2007 models are very finicky but I've never come across one that doesn't work eventually. Most people fail to put the proper 40 amp charger on. Also using too fast of a laptop can cause problems. I use a $250 netbook.

Also note with the canned bin loaded the software version will always show incorrectly due to a bug with how the flash software reads the software version.
