The issue comes from the bellhousing, mainly.

Finding a bellhousing that will work is the first step, and it's a doosie.
The other problem with ZF transmissions is that the bellhousings are integral...... so I would have to cut off the bell, and either weld or bolt on another to the front pump bolts.

That's a whole 'nuther challenge in its'self. If we weld it on there, then we have to worry about alignment and warpage to the front pump/drum assembly area in the case.

If we bolt it on there, i dont know if the front pump bolts would support the power or torque that the transmission will be seeing.

Its not like a Turbo 400 where it has like 9/16 pump bolts and you can bolt an aftermarket bell to it. These transmisisons are a little more touchy.

Regardless, i would like to find a 6R80 or something i can cut the bellhousing off of, and a 6hp21 case..... and try to swap bellhousing via TIG welding.....

Working here ain't glorious. But it does have its perks. I want this to GRRRRROOOOOOOOWWWWWW but you gotta take baby steps to make it happen.

yea, we are pretty aware of that, but still, looking is looking.

I need to take some measurements of the 5R110W in my superduty and see what it looks like. It makes 378/790 to the ground and has no issues pushing it. I know they can take some serious abuse, especially when built up.

    or maybe an allison.
or something. Still brainstorming over at the transmission shop. I think if my tranny guy was more "high performance" oriented he would have a better mind on what to use/do, but he's just a stock rebuilder who supplies parts and stuff.....
If I wasn't on the other side of the country, I would've made enough beer/whiskey runs to make AA meetings cringe.

Well, guess what? The guy who was supposed to start on Monday didn't show up Monday or today. So, he obviously doesn't want it.

Interesting read on the transmission side, awesome seeing you get in there and seeing what's what!!... sucks how tight it all is though.

on the job side.. man, if i wasn't in australia, i'd be applying in a heartbeat, seems like the perfect starter job in an awesome shop...

Not really, honestly. It's on the back burner again.
The engine block I was using got sent to the machine shop to get cleaned up for PTF.
I'm too slammed to 'play' with stuff like this right now. Once we get caught up again I'll revisit.

Believe me, I want a solution. Trust me on this.

on the 6l90s....you should prob contact a domestic shop...i suggest mine (new era performance) Mike is one of the best trans tuners around for the 6l80 and 90....you can run a somewhat stand alone tcm unit for your car. You just snatch it out of a car like my cts-v or the zl1. and they hold well over 1000whp/wtq bone stock as long as they are tuned properly.....as me how i know Click here to enlarge

Don't mean to revive a dead thread (I'm lying), but have you thought about a 200r4, or a t350 with GV overdrive? The GN's seem to do okay running mid to low 9's at ~150 with 200's (the 200's are built, but with aftermarket parts widely available, they're pretty cheap). Also, the 200 has a better 1-2 ratio than the 700r/4l60. The gear vendors are expensive, but they're pretty much bulletproof, and if the 350 breaks, you can fix it for $300. Last but not least, you might try an old torqueflite, they're not bad, but I don't know jack about them in terms of size or adaptability.
Just throwing some other options out there.

I thought I had this bookmarked, but with a little Google magic I found it.

    http://www.rowand.net/Shop/Tech/Auto...issionSwap.htm

On the page, the guy provides a diagram of the physical dimensions of each GM tranny, as well as one that lists details on each transmission, like ratios.

    Thanks for the thought!
Yes, we looked at a 200r, but it needs a TD cable, and it wouldnt be very feasable.

This is on the back burner. I *KNOW* i can do it, but it takes money. Lots of it.

Ah okay. Don't you just hate that? This kind of stuff would be so much simpler if it weren't for that pesky money issue..Really looking forward to seeing what comes of this when you guys get the chance to look into it more. From what I've seen so far, if anyone can get this done, it's you guys, best of luck!
BTW, if I weren't all the way up in DFW, I would jump at the chance to be a janitor/beer caddie. Doing that and getting to see all the different projects sounds a helluva lot better than what I'm doing right now.
