8k Tach just means Redline is somewhere above 7k --- Could be 7300 RPMs or 7600, we'll see Click here to enlarge
BMW's own press release states over 7500 just as the article states.

Oh you're referring to the E92.

Of course the new one will be quicker/faster stock. No M3 has ever been slower than the previous generation. Why would it be?

Road and Track hit 12.5@115. Some mags hit high 12's. Some hit 110. Conditions, temp, driver, tires, transmission etc., all affect the outcome.

I would expect this car stock to average 4 miles per hour more of trap speed and 4/10's ET than the E92 M3. Basically, similar to the F10 M5 over the E60 M5.

It will be slower than the F10 M5 though.

This has to be one of broadest torque curve, most thermally efficient and volumetrically efficient stock 6 cylinder ever made.

80kg or 176 lbs lighter than comparably equipped E92 M3.

It would be nice for them to give us a little more info on that weight figure.

    Not overly impressed by redline.

    From BMW press release:

The S55 redlines slightly beyond 7500 rpm; peak power is available from around 5000 rpm until 7300 rpm.

If you add it up they get 3482 for the E92 M3 which is not right. It should be almost 100 more than that or about 265 pounds less. That's if their 1500 kilogram figure is accurate.

7500RPM is fine. More RPM = more harmonic vibrations/crank-walk/less bearing life

Yeah, honestly the numbers don't add up. Seems like they just threw a number out there to wow the crowd.

More rpm = more torque multiplication, broader powerband, more horsepower multiplication.

The Nissan GTR had high revs with an inline-6 turbo figured out for years...

I guess so but if they actually got the weight this low they could have wowed even more with the weight difference. I don't understand how BMW could make such a mistake with basic arithmetic in a major press release.

Isn't Porsche doing 9k with a production direct injected six-cylinder? Just saying...

Yeah with little baby bores. People would complain of lag these days. Plus the dual vanos and valvetronic and direct injection will create a torque curve the RB motors can only dream of.

The R35 doesn't rev much higher either because it doesnt need to. Unless you are shooting 1,000WHP+. Click here to enlarge

This is one of those motors that would be awesome to have, but suck to build.

I'll stick to building my easy VG30dett for now. I swear eventually it will be done and I will post here!

Yeah the 9k redline on the 991 GT3 is just insane, especially in a everyday production car.

Ferrari also with their 458. I remember when you were saying direct injection couldn't be used with high-rev motors! (Just giving you hard time, I prefer port injection as well for ease of use and valve cleaning)

I believe the new 458 Speciale is revving to 9k now.
