    Lightbulb Eaton Supercharger Kit - E39 540i

Anyone know of installs of the following on US based BMWs and if the S/C is as durable as the Vf Superchargers ?

This kit looks a little strange. At first glance, great, but then zip ties?

I think the zip ties are just to hold some (sliced) silicone piping around some electrical cables.

It's quite a bit of money for an unknown kit with not so much documentation (no details of the construction of the air2water cooler on the compressor itself), but if you look at this I think it picks up speed pretty nicely. Nice torque through the power band (@ 1:30min):

It would be nice if the designer of the sc setup would give some information about his system.
All available sets have been designed with centrifugal superchargers afaik
I think the m62 engine should be very well suited for a volumetric supercharger as it is a very torqie and low revving engine.

The eaton m112 is a commercially/oem used supercharger, and as a volumetric supercharger runs at much lower revs. So it probably doesn't get more durable than this. (the supercharter that is; the cooling, brackets etc I don't know)

The kit would probably look a lot better if black silicone hoses were used. The rubber isulation boot (with the tie wraps) wouldn't be so much noticable too..
I'm not sure what kind of ecu is included. The housing looks stock (apart from the blue color obviously) but there's a booklet and a usb? cable.....

    I think the ECU included is a K-data M60 kdfi (alpha-N):
    http://www.k-data.org/kdfi-pnp-bmw-m60.html

Nice to throw in a $650 ecu on that price.

I don't know about that... I would stay away. There isn't enough info to go on.

There are other M62 options with a known track record.

It would be nice to have more info on that kit indeed. A dyno run+afr info on a dynojet for comparison would be nice Click here to enlarge

When I read the ad twice, I'm not sure if you get the ecu included or not....

And as always: support is everything. Especially on the ecu tune....

It's too ambiguous IMO and software is key with forced induction on BMW's.

Thanks... was looking at it when tinkering with idea of adding S/C to 540 but it looked a bit nefarious

But I think they're all centrifugal.

All volumetric installs I know of are custom projects; no readily available kits.
Maybe the v8 isn't that suitable for a volumetric install. There's not much room in the V if you want the charger seated there, and some cooling and a nice plenum......

They are all centrifugal unfortunately but they work well.

I asked for the installation instructions, but he said he had an issue where someone had stolen his plans and then copied his system. He only finally sent me the instructions after I negotiated a price and paid for his system. He said it'll take about a month to get made and shipped, so I've got more time to keep doing research. I've got the instruction in my email via a Word document, but like all other conversations with him, it's a very poor German to English translation via Google Translate. Anyone w/ suggestions as to where I can post the instructions and then be able to link onto forums for free?

Mind you these instructions contain old pics (you can see newer tubing and other design changes on current eBay adds) and is a VERY poor German to English translation, here are the installation instructions - http://static.daom.nl/e38_eaton112compressor.pdf I'v asked him for the German version to which I'll post also, then I'll have a friend translate it for me in person and see if we can post something more easily understood. Once my friend and I do the install, I fully intend to document EVERYTHING and see about even re-writing the instructions for this guy.

I find it crazy you guys are buying a no-name supercharger kit that hasn't been tried and tested.

I don't know what you determine as proven, but there are videos of running versions of this kit in all 3 stages he's created. I've discussed in naussem as to why I've gotten this kit (most importantly roots > centrifugal), but at the end of the day, 90% of his kit is in fact proven being the Eaton M112 supercharger itself. He's taken a proven supercharger and intake plenum, made some adapter plates and then added a RRFRP to get fuel. I agree it's not perfect, but I'm fully capable of fixing whatever may come up after installation..by biggest concern is fuel delivery and tuning. At this point, I've paid $4200 for throttle provisions for bot a non-VANOS 98 740iL and VANOS X5 vehicle, a completely rebuilt and powercoated supercharger, is adapter plates and parts for intercooling...things I probably could have done myself, but he's done it for me, leaving me to tie up the loose ends. Even if I put $1000 into additional effort into it, it's still cheaper than a VF or Dinan kit, and no matter what the power deleivery of this supercharger is wildly different than a centrifugal -

My DD for the moment, a Harley F150 used that same M112 supercharger at I've upgraded to a twin screw Kenne Bell pushing well over 600hp. I'll never be able to get those numbers in my X5, maybe in my 740iL, but it's still a better supercharger than the Vortech...in my opinion.

You have a V8 for God's sake, I don't know why you just wouldn't build that up and use a CF for the top end. It's not like you have a 4 or 6 cylinder that needs a turbo or Roots. If you need torque down low, you need a better engine.

Actually, turbo is good for better gas mileage. S/C has way too much parasitic drain. When I drive my 540i now, I can can see the gas gauge go down 1/4 tank after 65 miles. Hopefully a new tune will help, but thanks that it is only my week-end car.

I think sticky means the kit as a whole. Especially the dme tuning/injectors etc.
I'm sure sticky knows the commercial implementations of the m112 and that it's about as indestructible as they come. The biggest challenge is the tuning.
But with all these kits: support is verything. That said, someone was also the first to try a AA kit or ESS kit.

Need for torque down low depends on the drive ratio. The choice of CF or volumetric is imho more based on how the engine's used/suited. An engine that loves to rev (and is used in that way) is more suitable for a CF.
    Is a 540i such a car/engine? (personally I think not)
