    New arrival to the family

My girlfriend was getting bored with her 370Z and so after a year of getting her to just try a testdrive of a Z4 (and after getting everything settled in our new house), she finally relented and we bought it on the spot. She wanted a nicer interior than her Z (not hard to do) and she wanted a convertible again (she really missed the S2000 more than I did) and it needed to be either just as quick or close.

So we found a DSBM 09 sDrive35i with DCT for a nice bargain. It has 2 full years of CPO on it, only 35k miles, premium pkg, and had the optional 18" wheels plus the 'exclusive' Ivory leather interior (suede accents and all that). They gave us a very good trade-in value and came down on the price quite a bit.

We just got a chance to re-detail it this weekend (we always redo it as most dealers just don't take as much time to do it right). I'll get some interior pics up in a bit.

Planned mods are DCI and JB4 Click here to enlarge

I say no, but I'm sure she'll convince me otherwise. Hell, that DCT shifts so damn fast, with just a JB4 it might outrun my car at FBO.

And yes, I didn't realize they came with a DCT either, but as far as I can tell nearly ALL the 'automatic' sDrive35i models out there (09-11?), 90% of them are DCT. There's a pic of the real 6-speed auto in the car manuals, but I think it only came on the sDrive30i.

The steering is MUCH quicker and more like what I normally prefer (the 335i steering ratio is just really tall). It's got me thinking hard about trying an M3 steering rack swap, but it's hard to find data on the possibility. Other than that, it's running new RFTs with stock suspension and my E92 has a decent amount of handling mods. To put it simply, I think the Z4 drives better to a point, but I know my 335i handles a LOT better (M3 LCAs, BCR coilovers, Wavetrac, Michelin PSS, etc).

The 2010s are still pushing $40k, they had this one listed at $38k, then marked it down a bit for Labor Day weekend, but we talked them down to $33k and felt we came out ahead considering the CPO.

Best way to look at it is a slightly lighter 335is (same powertrain, just no factory power bump), so I think the potential for it is great Click here to enlarge

i heard they tend to be tail happy around a corner. get some upgraded swaysbar on that 335i ! one of my favorite mods was swapping out my sway bars. i would love to install some m3 bits, but at the moment im focusing on getting her on the road again

Yeah, even with the stiffer springs from my coilovers, I feel I'm still getting a little more body lean than I'd prefer. I may try the swaybars to see if that fixes it. I still think the M3 steering rack swap would be the best mod for handling feel. Too many things to purchase Click here to enlarge

Great choice on color. Congrats. We have fully loaded 2011's for $38k out here where i live. Looks like they still use the N54 even in the 2011 models.

Congratulations, the E89 is a beauty. Love the car.

What grinds my gears is that there is no M version though... yet they race one. And by grind my gears I mean drives me absolutely $#@!ing insane with BMW's hypocrisy.

    Moving to the Z4 section.

Wow! It looks smaller and much lighter than a 335. Guess looks are deceiving. I'm sure that convert. top doesn't help.
