    Road and Track $#@! slaps AutoBlog - States 2014 F82 M4 will have a manual transmission. Period.

    Road and Track, feisty! Autoblog a few days ago seemingly pulled out of their rear end a story that the the upcoming BMW M4 would not be available with a manual transmission option. That means that like the new 991 GT3 the car would be dual clutch transmission only. Well, this 'news' got the internet's collective automotive websites in a tizzy and flew directly in the face of BMW's own statements as well as reports from other publications.

    Road and Track contacted an unnamed BMW source which stated the M4 'will not have the GT3’s problem.' BMW showing some swagger? What is going on?

    The M3 manual transmission option is actually very popular. For the E90 M3 44% of the cars were ordered with manual. Compared to the M5/M6 (which do have a manual option) this is a huge percentage disparity meaning the M3 is quite popular with manual transmission enthusiasts.

    Road and Track quoted BMW's own comment (which BimmerBoost referenced even earlier) from head of M Albert Biermann. "The M3 needs to have a stick shift. It will always have a stick shift." How much more clear does it need to be?

    Also, the M3 and M4 have the same drivetrain so if one gets a stick they both get a stick as it is not some huge cost increase to offer it on both just like the M5 and M6.

    Road and Track does not mention AutoBlog in their article but it is obvious whom their article was aimed at. AutoBlog has yet to respond, retract, or do much of anything other than bask in the hits from their contrived rumor. It seems reposting press releases is more up their alley than actual automotive journalism.

    Autoblog is like bad fiction - the make so many mistakes and straight up just make stuff up all the time it is ridiculous. When I was ordering my X3 this spring, Autoblog spend half the spring reporting spy shots of the 2014 X3 facelift, even though the 2014 was already released in April, they kept reporting that in July it would get the facelift, when the rest of the world was reporting it was a 2015 to be release in April 2014.

    I don't even know why I still check Autoblog or Jalopnik, I can't decide if they exclusively have morons writing for them or if they purposely try to spread drama or misinformation to drive page views and comments. We've seen images of M3/M4s with manual gear levers (as seen above) and tons of videos of obviously manual cars testing at the 'ring and on the streets in various areas including California. Take all this along with Biermann's statement and I'd be willing to bet my own clutch foot that the M3 will definitely have a manual transmission available.

    The question really is why don't more people read what I write? I haven't seen a site with a better pulse on what is really going on and tuning.

    I make sure to call out the mistake by the way. Nobody is perfect but this is just f'ing sloppy.

    Quite a few "news" websites and blogs in various areas report with no regard to facts, only how many hits the article will get them, as that's what drives their advertiser income. I generally avoid AutoBlog for this reason.

    The sad thing is quantity rules. I don't get it. I mean make up whatever you want if you have a big enough name that other people reference and it will drive hits.

    Cool that Road and Track called them on it though.
