Mine 135i, n55, downpipes, jb4, was damaged with all the downside part of the engine... The auto-clear ( dashboard dont appear any error or engine malfunction) function was forgot on... Them I went to a track day and all the things gone bad... Iwill need almost a new engine to fix that... Al the other parts I'll buy at autorized dealer but the block is too expensive... Almost 4k!

total amount of that bill; 11k!

is your block windowed? meaning is there a hole in it? a good machine shop can rebuild it for alot less that buying a new shortblock. With that being said, sometimes it's cheaper to buy a long block then sell the good parts left over from your old motor. I bet @alex@ABRhouston can help you out.

This. If it doesn't have a hole in it then rebuild it.

Just a heads up for the rest of us, what did you do to blow the motor? Was it just driving on a road course and in a straightaway the engine plain failed? Or we're you on slicks going through a high G corner and had oil starvation? Details would be awesome.

    No CEL?

I am not confident of a cogent response here for some reason.

Hmmm, I don't know about the N55 or the JB4 but with CANclear on my N54 Procede Rev 3 if I throw a code whilst driving it still goes into limp, throws a CEL etc.

Unless the JB4 somehow works different on the N55 it should still throw the code, but it just clears it when you turn on/off the car.

I went to a track day when my HPFP was going out and I was misfiring every lap and going into limp mode. I'd have to pull over and restart the car and I'd see all sorts of codes come up on the P3 gauge however when I went in at the end of the session and turned the car back on the codes would be gone.

I have no doubt that something went very wrong in your car but I don't believe it would have anything to do with a CANclear function being left on.

Manual transmission? Wondering about the failure as someone on the other site had a problem and blamed it on meth flooding the engine at high rpm (unlikely IMO).

In any case, if you just need a "short block" (engine block/lower half, not the cylinder head nor anything attached to it), you may have to buy a whole used engine to acquire one quickly. These seem like they can be had for $2k-4k depending. $4k from the dealer probably isn't unreasonable ($3200 from http://www.getbmwparts.com btw) for the short block.

$11k - $4k leaves about $6k for labor assuming about $1000 for gaskets, oil etc. That seems a bit high for labor (more than 40hrs) but maybe that's "book" time on an engine swap?
