    Rusty color on Turbo.. exhaust side, Ideas?

    I was in the middle of installing a set of turbos today on a customers car. and removed the front downpipe to find that a rusty color around the turbine and wastegate. im guessing the type fuel causing this? I im just curious the car runs great a bit of smoke at WOT. but nothing much going to finish the install and see.

    in the mean time here are pic of what im talking about.

    When I had a 07 335i it looked this way as well. On my 09 135i it doesnt. Not sure why. Never used e85 on the 07, so I don't think that has anything to do with it.
    09 135i. Auto. BMS intake. CPE catless downpipes. HPF intercooler. BMS ww meth kit. BMS JB4/G5.

    Interesting. Was it flakey or just a light dusting causing the coloring? Did it look like the "rust" was actually penetrating the metal in any way?

    no want actually rust. just looked like Brown soot. customer told me he runs a bottle of octane booster in every tank of gas. so I'm guessing thats the issue Click here to enlarge
