    cobb v open source v piggy....anyone with a flash not have any issues??

    has anyone with a flash not have any issues with their tune?

    it was they have all been plagued by misfires, oscillations, from what I read
    when I used the jb3 years ago, I had no problems no limp modes and 6 or more track days on it.
    the flashes from dinan to cobb, and I suspect open source ones will have the same issues once its been out long enough.

    the jb3 was marketed as the simple elegant solution without cps offsetting and now jb4 has the same features as the Vishnu piggy.
    could the original simple jb3 be the way to go?

    Flash tune, no issues that have not been regular maintenance related. Any tune, including the stock tune, will have misfires if your plugs/etc are on the way out.

    Running fine for me. Running Terry's backend race flash stacked with the jb4. Flashed via the BB open source flash.

    my cobb pro tune flash works fine for me. granted I don't track it.

    Just asking this question tells me you haven't done sufficient research. I'd so most with a flash have not had any issues, or with any tune for that matter.

    cobb bms flash + jb4 g5iso here without issues. Using map7 with e60 and meth daily.
    11.76 @ 124 (123.9) full weight e92 335i, street tires, no meth.

    These cars are very finicky, tuned or not. Once boost is pushed to double that of the factory settings, the car can get even more cranky. You will find misfire threads from people with every major tune produced for this car. The few issues that were traced back to specific tunes have had their firmware updated to correct the issue. The good thing is the popular tune providers for this platform provide constant updates and revisions to correct issues and add features, and the popular 3 are usually willing to help out on a one-to-one basis when needed. In my personal situation, both Terry of Burger Motorsports and Josh of Cobb have written custom code to help me out.

    JB3 was an awesome tune if you want simplicity and lots of power; but newer tunes like the JB4 offer features that some people need for better customization of their setups (meth control, nitrous integration, 2-step, single turbo control, etc).

    i am definitely leaning towards cobb because of there support. no need to be defensive, yes what I read on here...this is a forum correct...that's what people do...post, read and learn others experiences.not trying to trash any tune.just want to make an informed decision.so PTF is the way to go? is there any major difference in the tuning, performance or safety between open source vs Cobb?

    By the way you posted, sounded like you were trolling and just starting trouble. Don't believe everything you read.

    Jb4, cobb are both good tunes, both have their pluses and minus's. If your going with cobb you should def. get a protune, it really wakes up the car/tune. PTF is a good place to get a protune. I'd bet you can find both used, buy one, try it, sell it if you don't like it.

    The JB/Procede had their role in the market because flashing was either not available or not convenient. The engine should be controlled by the ECU if at all possible. Piggybacks are vastly inferior to any flash tune, due to the very little control they have on the ECU (out 100-150 tables, they control only 3 tables if you are lucky), and due to the rudimentary way to control it. For example: JB4 by default does not control timing, so the timing is too high for the higher boost levels. With crank position sensor offsetting, the other things that depend on the crank position, like when does the fuel injection start, are also collaterally altered. The AFR is controlled by altering signals from the O2 sensors and these signals cannot be altered sufficiently and quickly enough for correct transitions. That's why you see AFR spikes, post-shift huge AFR lean spikes, etc. Basically a piggyback is a big mess that should not be used when flashing is available.

    The problems that people have with flashes (no matter which brand) are not from the flashes but from the maps, which is a different thing.

    I am running Cobb and did notice that their off-the-shelf maps are not tested except in WOT conditions and not much in daily driving. But once you go to a tuner to create a map specific to your car, you can obtain very balanced performance from the engine. I am also a believer in one map fits all, but this requires months and months of testing, from my experience. After I created some maps for my RB turbos, I realized why GIAC too like a year to get their Stage 2 maps from Beta to Release.

    I have an 07 auto that was Pro tuned by PTF the car was very strong but was plagued with problems of a shudder between 3k-4k and once I shifted out of 4th to higher gears under wot 30FF codes randomly.

    I went JB4 G5 with the backend flash and problems fixed car is running great but I think I am the exception for cars having problems with a Pro tune. Jake and PTF was awesome for support my car is just finicky like a female.
