Lol, c'mon... How can you say that? The n54 is at 750hp on stock internals....what do you think a ///m variant will be capable of? For all we know it could be 3.5 liter....look at the gtr And their 3.8liter. You know you blindly assuming that, why? I have no clue...

@Sticky if anything this motor could have way more potential since it's boosted from the factory

Because it spits all over the traditional M formula.

If the GT3 turned into a lower revving and less responsive car it would no longer be a GT3. This is no longer a real M in my mind. It's a new breed and I will no longer be a customer.

No, all that means is it is easier to tune out the door not that you can get it further. Due to the older M motors being higher revving and offering higher volumetric efficiency without forced induction they will always have more potential.

You'll get more with just a tune here but a turbo S54 or S65 will kick sand in its face.

I guess it depends on your definition of a M car.

Really interested to see what they did with this engine. How they addressed the turbo lag the the M5/M6 has. How did they address heat soak and limp mode problems. To me with this next gen M3/M4, it is all about power delivery. The S65 is magic on a road course.

I guess in reality this has become more of a street car. I just don't see too many guys running these as their track cars.

The true test will be when some owners actually do get their cars out on the track and pound the sh*t out of them 20-30 minutes sessions. Can this car be beat on all day and keep on ticking.

You and I have no clue how high revving this will be. The s54 has a 8000rpm redline, rumor has it this s55 will be 7500-8000... Big deal

I find this conversation comical, it's all assumptions on your part with a negative view. Why don't we just have high revving 4 cylinder and stick with the ORIGINAL m formula lol

If you were to take a look a the current M5/M6 and if this follows in their footsteps you will have your answer .

No, we've got a pretty good idea based on BMW's turbo motors and shots of the tach. I don't see this getting anywhere near 8000.

Over 7000? It better be... it better be. But it still won't matter, I have a 4.0 liter V8 revving to 8500 rpm I win forever and ever.

No assumptions, I'm going based on precedent and what we know. I'm grounded in reality not hoping for something that won't come.

You make a modern S14 and stick it in a lightweight chassis and you essentially have a BMW S2000. Will that car be more fun to drive? There's your real question.

I am a member of a track. The GTR does heat soak. My buddy had one for a while, he managed to trigger low boost mode numerous times.

It isn't the first time they have run turbos in F1.

And a F1 car is your argument to prove a street car is ready for track duty.

Nope... Just pointing it out. The 911 turbo and gtr is my argument... I just think it's crazy that people bury a car before it's even out. Why?

Great, glad you brought that up. The guys that go to the track on a regular basis don't use their 911 turbos as the their track duty cars. They have a GT3. Porsche knows exactly what makes a reliable hardcore track car and it isn't FI.

Not burying it. I just think it is more of the street car now, going to be a damn good one.

Yea... We will see. I'm not going to argue anymore, I'll let the car speak for itself. It's going to be sick, and I can't wait to buy one.

    I heard anything > 3500 lbs isn't a real M car. I guess that rules out the e92. Sorry...

The e92 doesn't weigh over 3500... EDIT: Apparently it weighs just around 3500. The internet doesn't seem to know for sure Click here to enlarge

I'll agree with most here that this is a helluva good looking car (in a different color), but it will be interesting to see how the engine performs. C&D was quoting a 7000 RPM redline which shouldn't surprise anyone.

Since when? Rumors are the new motor will be "near 8, 000 rpm" whatever that means. I can all bit guarantee it will be more than 7, 000.

Yeah I edited my post about the weight. Review mags put it at just over 3500, and BMW put it a bit over that as well. So it seems like you're right.

I'm just quoting this article (lol, lofty). "We expect to see a lofty redline in the proximity of 7000 rpm"

Lofty 7000? Lol...if its only 7000...well that would be embarrassing...
