Just curious is it safe to do a partial write (map change) without a battery charger?

The partial write should take about 2 minutes. So as long as you have a solid charge, it should be fine.

@klipseracer...Thanks for working on this! I was thinking about this and I know you have spent alot of time working on this and got it to work with the BT cable, but for the cost of the BT cable I am sure many others including myself would rather donate the $167 bucks to you to get it working for Dcan/ICOM interface connection. Heck I rather pay you the money for you to get it working then buy a damn BT cable...

I would be the first to donate that fund to you for your efforts in getting it to work other than BT cable

The BT cable will work for the BB OS flash even if it has no VINs left with the BT sw. The 3 VINs are only associated with the BT stuff. Someone bought a used up BT cable for $6 recently because it will work with the flash sw.

The VIN check is only performed by the Bavarian Technic Software. When the cable is used with the Open Source flash, no VIN check is performed and the hardware is still functional.

Can anyone elaborate on why reading and writing to the DME requires so much battery power.
That thing should be smoking hot for consuming this much current (if not for the small cooler)...

Why in the world would we put a vin lock on the flasher? Do you understand why I don't feel like making a new interface now?

It isn't currently but someone could add it in. Open source has lots of potential.

Well minus powering the ignition you've got a running machine eating up power. There are many other modules in the car besides the DME and its essentially all on, primed to run for a full hour. Cars take more juice than they used to. Even leaving your car off for a couple weeks can result in a low or dead battery in some cases.

Open flash or open source is fine with me. The e90post guys can just wonder why they paid $400 for something others got for free, lol.
