How would you deal with overseas customers? Have them ship part of their engine (e.g. for cylinder head work) to you? I'm considering upgrading some of the internals early next year.

    Pretty cool and in Houston.

I am wondering how much of this is applicable to N55? 1mm larger exhaust valves already there. Crank bearings are different, though.

I need a N55 to tear down but the concept is the same. Ditch the rods and pistons, and put our own guts in there.

head and main studs would have to be rechecked for clearance and fitment.

    update for everyone-
    CUSTOM HEAD STUDS
    ARP2000 material, drop in kit.
    *update* 8/5:
The head studs are still being messed with. I have perfect fitment on the outside 9mm studs, but the inside 10mm studs are too long. The middle studs are going back to ARP, and new ones are being sent.

ARP does not stock this, meaning it has to go thru the custom shop. Expect weeks of delay. I am wanting them to make 1-2 studs (at a ridiculous price) before I order (ugh) over 100 of these.
I spoke with them today, but won't know pricing until I get a solid conformation on the fitment, and how many I'll buy (at least 10 stud kits- meaning hundreds of studs lol $$$$$$$)

    CUSTOM MAIN STUDS
    ARP2000 material
    update 8/5:
Main studs are very tricky due to clearances.
With our prototype kit, we trimmed down the studs to make them fit.
The back studs require STRICT and CRITICAL clearances, since the oil pan sits directly over it.
We literally are making them flush with the top of the stud, and also are accounting for oil pan gasket thickness to make this work.

also, the rear studs require not to have the washers put underneath them; do to height. Don't worry, the factory main stud bolts only have .005 bigger built-in washer face, this is negligible.

We will be asking on Monday if ARP can make us a very custom stud- If they won't make it for us, we will be trimming the stud down for fitment. Either way we have a game plan for it.
Requirements: you will have to knock down a small little "triangle" off the oil pump stand. very easy and minimal.

We are sending ARP our prototype studs to make these (also) in their custom shop. Again, they need to make these ON TARGET for them to fit. Expect weeks of delay Click here to enlarge
Again, I won't know pricing until I confirm fitment, and give them the go ahead to make hundreds of these in the custom shop ($$$$$$) -I'm investing a LOT of money in this for you guys.

Let me know what yall think.

sucks the head studs don't all fit, excellent you have the patience to get them made so you know they all fit right Click here to enlarge

hopefully the mains can be re-done by ARP to fit though :/

Updated the first post and one above here.

It sucks, but that's what happens when you want to make custom stuff Click here to enlarge
As always, I'm just gonna tell you straight up what is going on. I totally expected this to be a easy thing... Give them measurements, get studs, kick ass.

Well, apparently that's how things go, and this is my first rodeo trying to make custom anything from ARP.

So, when I know- you guys will know.

    (This isn't a binding agreement)
How many of you are actually going to buy a head or main stud kit? I know, it's difficult to say when I don't know the exact pricing, sorry Click here to enlarge
I have 3-4 engines that I personally will be using them in for full engine builds.
I can always order more- but want to know the true interest before I order tons of these things.
Could you knock out a little roll call?

that's what i was afraid of - ARP seems really unwilling to move into new markets, they've gotten REALLY lazy it seems.. unless they go 'yeah we'll sell tens of thousands of sets a year' and make it, they ignore it....

Put me down for both a main+head stud set... you're going to be the only option for ages anyway lol Click here to enlarge

This is exactly what I encountered when my shop had contacted ARP about a month or so ago. They said they didn't have the sizes in stock and wouldn't make me a set (unless we ordered a bunch). I'm glad someone is sticking it through. The timeline sucks for me though.

are they still being ordered through ARP, just through a slower channel?

worst part about this if so:
they're using you completely to fund their development of the product which they'll start offering on their shelves more than likely?

I just bought another motor. You know I am in for all of the above. I will most likely have VAC do my head though, I had a long talk with Tony over the CNC port job they are doing. It looks nice. But prob have you do the rest. Who is doing your machine work? Just curious.
