? Why would you start on something I wasn't even 100% sure I was going to do yet. My only problem with all this stuff is, and its not even really a problem just more of a question. Who is doing all this work? How much experience does he have building BMW engines and specifically the N54. I know its not an easy motor to work on. I am 100% going to build a motor but I just need to know I am getting a motor I can push to 900+ WHP and not really have to worry about it. Just shoot me an email. Not a PM. Tony@vargasturbo.com and we can discuss more.

Do not PM me. Email me, responding to PM is annoying at times as I get an email, then I have to come to the site and respond.

We are making custom spacers to work for the head studs.
ARP Custom stuff from them is absolutely ridiculous.
We are going to trim the main studs like the picture shows.

Of course, none of this will effect strength.
If we start getting more orders for these, pricing will go down.... But right now- it is what it is
Where do the spacers have to go to get the head studs to fit right? (possibly silly question, can’t find much info on it)

And, if y'all need used parts (pistons/rods/valves/etc) we will be selling them as well if people need it

I would have had to buy over 9,000 dollars in studs to make it happen in the first place, and to be comparable to what my machinist can modify them for. It's rediculous.

yes, the spacers will be made out of 4340 chromoly..... Kind of like a thick washer. It's the only way to make a "off the shelf" stud work. I just can't justify buying 9-10 thousand dollars worth of studs for a limited market.

Think of the springs as being upgraded for longevity and strength, rather than changing seat pressure. We put together a few older Ferrari race engines that spun to 15,000rpm...... The seat pressure was only 75lbs. That's hardly anything. The reason being, there isn't a rocker/push rod/lifter to move at a high rate of speed like a conventional V8. The same thing goes with the N54. It has very low mass with the valve train, and as such- doesnt need a ton of spring pressure modification (since we aren't even changing cam profile)

    What about valve guides?

no reason to change them unless they are out of spec. Valve guides are normally about 12/each installed.

And i’m assuming the valves will be SS? Solid?

solid stainless steel. If you want titanium, contact me and bring your wallet.

    Thankyou!

We also can install beryllium valve seats for an additional 1600 dollars on any stage cylinder head.
the valves MUST be purchased with keepers/retainers/springs. The reason being, is they are all going to work together...... The BMW keepers are not going to fit the Manley valves.

$9k? LOLROFL that must have been a pretty $#@!ty part of your day (week?) to hear. wow. that seriously sucks...

ahh the studs are too small or something?

wow, so they'll literally never have a problem spring rate wise at any boost/revs we're likely to run? (say people are now approaching the 30psi mark).. and i'm assuming some people might want to look into raising rev limit if it ever becomes possible (i guess maybe only possible on the proEFI?).

i take it that means the OEM guides are pretty stout/won't wear out any time soon in any application enough to warrant a different material?..
Oh wait, it says the guides aren't replaceable? not a part at all offered by BMW.. does that sound right to you?
Ok, Valve seals then? comes with the valves? lol

... yeah, i had a read up on Ti valves... consensus seemed like.. if you don't like replacing a set of valves regularly, change valve seat material... and the cost of that + $1600 in CuBe seats makes for a VERY expensive N54 head!

They also say that about the N62 and N62Tu, and we have no issue replacing the valve guides in those heads- and have done hundreds of them.
Valve seals are bought seperately- no big deal.

We had some setbacks, as the machine shop isn't just my oyster.... He has his own work as well..... He's had a few major projects that have taken more time than what he thought, parts are still being manufactured and other excuses I can't remember right now since I don't have enough coffee and Copenhagen in me yet lollol
But seriously, we are still on track to get this stuff together very soon. It's just a large undergoing- I'm sure you understand. There have been a lot of little issues that I've had to sort out. ARP is one of themClick here to enlarge
