I just wanted to repost what you wrote:

I understand it's a true open source project meaning full source code will be posted as well. BB sponsored the development as a way to give something back to the N54 community.

Currently it uses the same CAN cables BT uses so anyone with one of those floating around, locked or not, can run it. It's not VIN locked and has nothing to do with BT licensing so obviously you can program as many cars as you'd like. I'm not sure how BT will feel about hijacking their cable for this process but we're hoping they don't mind. Click here to enlarge

Since the source code will be posted I'm sure someone will eventually write functions to allow this to work on those super cheap $20 INPA CAN cables we all have floating around as well. They selected the cable BT uses as most of those testing it happened to already have those floating around and it's a high quality cable that supports CAN and KLINE communications.

BMS won't be directly supporting this per say but I do see this is another alternative to get our JB4 back end flash out there and installed on cars. You'd use this BB flash tool read your DME, modify it yourself in TunerPro, and then upload it using the BB flash tool. I know they are using these XDF files in TP to facilitate the modifying of the file so I'll spend some time figuring out how that works at some point.

Anyway, the point of this post was, it looks like real open source flashing is on the way.

I'm at a loss for words as to how well it's gone. Some very talented people who deserve a whole bunch of credit.

I'm happy for the N54 community and for things being made 'right' after they were taken for a ride by the usual culprits.

They can try to ignore this all they want. The good guys won. The more they censor, the more they pretend, the more we win.

How you like me now Shiv? How you like me now Jason? You can't stop it. You can't silence it. You aren't in control. We are.

Congratulations to the N54 community, great day for you. Great day for all involved. Great day for freedom.

So can someone explain the difference between this and the open flash for people with limited coding background (IE myself). This is accessed through a laptop? The software differs how? Both real questions. I could not be happier that you guys worked so fast to take the other one down. Hypocrites overt there selling people whatever product they are peddling even if they know it is inferior, and then finally selling the same thing and calling it open source. I hope this stings.

This is just a way to read/write a flash file to the DME. You use a cable and a laptop with this option rather than the stand alone tablet. With this option one generic cable can program as many cars as you want vs. being limited to just one car with the tablet. Once you have the file downloaded everything else works the same. Shiv has already posted several maps and I presume you could use his maps. Or at home tuners can write their own with the free TunerPro software. So think of it as being similar to the tablet thing only free.

Since bimmerboost sponsored the project I'm sure e90post will do everything they can to keep it under wraps. But, people will be talking about it here, and on other forums, so they will eventually have no choice but to allow its discussion there too.

So its an actual open source, open source tuner. What a concept.Click here to enlarge

Gotta love. Hey guys, here is open source tuning. Did we mention you have to give us $400 dollars? Thanks....... I mean I am in business to make money too, but if you call something open source which basically means free. It really should be.

My thoughts exactly. I also objected to calling something with 320x200 screen resolution a "tablet" but I guess that's another story all together. Click here to enlarge
