Badass or blasphemy? 1969 BMW 2002 widebody on tube chassis with a Mustang GT Coyote 5.0 swap

Some people are going to think this is awesome and some are going to think it is a pile of junk. The owner took the classic BMW 2002 body, put it on a cobra tube chassis, gave it custom fiberglass widebody work, and swapped in a domestic V8 out of a Mustang 5.0. You might be wondering how the motor fits and it, well, kind of doees. The dash had to be pushed back to accommodate the motor. The car just seems like a Frankenstein build.

Personally, I'd lean toward saying it's a mess. It is a cool idea and likely fast but this no longer a BMW other than it resembles one slightly (and is registered as one). There are a myriad of BMW motors that can be swapped in far more easily than this and that work well with the stock chassis. Regardless, just as the owner said, you either love it or you hate it.

It's for sale, but who is going to pick it up? Pictures and video below.

I think it's VERY cool. The fact he went with an unusual swap is even cooler. Sure a slightly more modern straight six would've been easier but you're(almost certainly) going to be the ONLY guy with a coyote swapped 2002 and that makes it worth it to some people.

Just me personally but I think "restorods" are the only way to do it. Sure, having a "numbers matching original" is nifty to say but try driving the car and you'll quickly lose the love appeal. The only real car culture where I live is the classic car scene and after being around it for the last 15 years now I can honestly say all original classics suck. They don't turn or stop, everything kind of works, no A/C and 99% of the time it's slow as molasses. Classic bodies with modern drivetrain and interior is a perfect blend IMHO.

The idea is cool on paper, agreed, but the execution here just isn't... clean.

Agreed. It could definitely be done better but depending on price(Didn't watch vid, just browse pics) it would make for a fun weekend car that will draw a crowd.

Personally I find that wide body more disturbing than the engine swap. This is very cool though none the less!

real cool idea, though I feel like doing a s65 swap would have been better -- and he wouldn't have had to drop that BMW badge on the engine...

However, that wide body is awful.

Cool, not sure I would like to own it though.

Don't like the seat color with these doorcards and dash

All in all it looks better than most of the Cobra kits I have seen..
Pretty sure this started out as an 1800 not a 2002

He says it's registered as a 2002 but who knows.

That's not a Coyote swap btw. Normal old school pushrod 5.0 from the foxbdy mustang.

it's not my cup of tea but much respect to the builder.

Ya I wasn't sure he said 5.0 GT but didn't specify. It doesn't have the intake manifold I had no idea what he had to modify to fit it in there. Good eye.
