Vargas Vendor Review - Stage 0 Replacement Turbos (No dyno.)

With 48k on the clock the OEM turbos died shortly after dialing up the boost to 19 PSI.
It was time for replacements, but I wasn't ready to sink the cash into a twin scroll, going the economical route I bought stock replacement turbos from Tony with the upgraded thrust parts.

    On dealing with Vargas:
Tony was a pleasure to deal with, working with me to find a good combo of options to suit my needs. He was always quick to answer my questions and requests. After going through several shipping & order changes everything arrived on-schedule and with everything as-ordered and well packed.

He's the kind of great vendor that the community needs.

    On the turbos:
Not much to say about these, these are the stock-replacement turbos with the Upgraded Thrust Parts. Spool is AFAIK the same as my old turbos; Due to the upgraded wastegates I was able to increase the P in PID for the Procede's boost control, which means that they're supposed to build boost faster. I haven't spent enough time dialing in these parameters but we'll see what I end up with.

@rick@defiv Did the install, as usual he sent pictures, was communicative. He even hand washed and detailed the car before I picked it up.

For those who are interested some logs are attached.

Are you running meth or E85? Boost curve looks great from what i can see, 18psi tapering to 16 at redline?

Why didn't you get new turbos from BMW? Obviously what you got it better, but a whole lot more expensive than free...

    Wow.....nice looking log.

Didn't think that was possible without meth or E85.

Looking over your data I see that you are running pretty rich AFR's.

Would love to see your AFR target table.

Nothing special there. (Unless you have a lust for a fat pile of r-compound & tiny snails.)

I didn't touch anything other than the OL fueling values for these runs. So the AFR table is the same as the OTS Stage 3 9-10 maps.

    My OL Fueling values attached:

Because I killed my turbos with excessive boost.
It wasn't BMW's fault I raped my car.

That is some honesty right there. +rep
Athough honestly, for a couple hundred bucks more I would've gotten stage 1s

I was in pretty much the same boat. Car ate a bit of oil when I bought it, then with Stage 2 Aggressive + FMIC and Macht Schnell downpipes, it smoked and ate oil like it was gasoline. I decided to upgrade to Vargas turbos.

My dealings with Tony have all been positive. I have asked a lot of questions, and he has been very patient in answering them. At first I went with the Stage 1 turbos with upgraded thrust parts, then once the billet wheels came out, I decided to get those as well. They have not been installed yet. I was looking to get a couple dyno pulls with the stock equipment for a baseline, then go back and get some pulls with the Stage 1 plus billet wheels. Hopefully I can get this taken care of next month.

Bottom line: Tony is a great guy to do business with.
    Eppur si muove.

"for a hundred bucks more..." I could play that game all day. If I wasn't getting Stage 2s with GTX wheels within the week I wasn't going to bother upgrading. I'll abuse these Stage 0s until I go single.
