I'm already seeing a difference in customer service.. Money has been paid to start on the engine. The plan right now is to bring the car in on the 20th of September.

I'm still not sure whether it will be stage 2.5, or I'll just go stage 3. Still considering some other supporting mods.

There was a slight change in plans. I won't be getting my car back from HPF because it will not be going there. I've decided instead to do the install myself. The cost and logistics to get my car from Houston to Portland ended up being a bit more than I wanted to deal with.

Looks like I might be the first DIY'er to install a 2.5 kit.

good luck, that a huge undertaking. take lots of pictures, it will be neat to see a DIY'ers photo journal of a motorbuild and install.

I'm sure you can do it, but I would send it to HPF no matter what. Less things to go wrong, and in a sense a better warranty... It's worth the extra money to send it to them IMO

    Where is the optimism?

For those that don't know I already practically built out everything on the car to date (video below). I've built and restored a number of make and model cars from frame off restorations to simple engine mods. BMW has been by far one of the easiest cars to work on so far. It's not rocket science guys, the kit is plug and play. The money I save can be put towards treated axles, new racing driveshaft and maybe a new ring and pinion.

Besides pulling the transmission is the hardest thing which I've already done.. pulling a motor is easy. Not to mention I've got lots of fabrication experience if you guys haven't noticed lol..

Do your thing then. I seen BMW techs that now work at great shops mess up the install. I know one personally others I just read about. Good luck.

Being a mechanic is like anything else in life, some people were born to do it and other just learned it. Just because someone has held a title at something doesn't make them good at it.

I'm starting to flip flop worse than a woman...

After some thought.. truth be told. I simply don't want to mess with it. I have decided the drive to Oregon will be less of a headache than dealing with my wife who will complain the entire time I'm working on the car.

I'm hoping to head to HPF in the next few days.

I think you made a wise decision. I would have liked to see it, would have been a huge benefit to the site, but I still think you made the right decision.

Yeah, I really wanted to DIY the kit. I was going to get a nice 60 gallon compressor and lift for my garage with the money I was going to save. Once the wifey injected her $.02 worth of wisdom I knew it was a fight I wouldn't win.

You could have sold it to her as it being your life long dream and her not respecting something you have desired since you were a boy and it would scar you for life.

But, then you would probably have had to sit around talking about emotions or whatever with her for hours so this probably works out best considering selling her is not an option.

Why drive? HPF can arrange shipping no problem, I'm sure you could negotiate that into the build price, I would.

It would cost a little bit more than just driving based on the quotes I got, I wouldn't get a chance to meet with the HPF guys in person and it would take longer overall. I've only priced it myself, I might ask them about it and see if they have some referrals.
