If you don't mind me asking, how were you able to get the Awron display to function with the JB4 piggyback? I was under the impression that any can-bus integrated gauge/display (aka the P3 vent gauge) would conflict with the JB4 controller.

Car is in the bodyshop - preparing for painting

It was a long time to post here, but during the summer the status of the car has not changed since last week. We have started to prepare the car for painting. Color remains the same as factory: saphire black metalic.

Excellent build and well said. Thank-you for sharing. And on another note, I cringed when I hear about WOT on a virgin engine to "seat the rings". All my BMW Master techs have told me uneven rpm's but to take it easy for 500 or so miles. *** My intention is to NOT start a break in debate.

Due to the change of the rear side panels, we had to repaint the trunk internally....

    Me neither- but......
Do you take the word of a BMW master (who i am, and agree with my machinist) or do you take the word of a machinist who builds engines (and high power ones at that) all day?

MY bet is the machinist..... and he says beat the holy hell out of it to seat the rings..... so that's whats done. After fluids are warmed and no leaks-Full throttle to redline, coast to idle- repeat a few times. change the oil and done.

Yeah the general guidelines to take it easy for a while is because your average owner doesn't know $#@! and if you told them to beat on it from the start to seat the rings they wouldn't wait for fluids to warm up and they aren't going to change the oil after the initial break-in.
For stock engines the BMW tech's advice is fine because a lot of manufacturers think burning a quart of oil every 1-2k miles is "within spec". Burning some oil is less risky from a warranty perspective than customers blowing engines in the first 500 miles from banging off the rev limiter on a cold virgin engine.

Guide to Breaking-in a New Engine via The Professional Machinist:

    1) Let engine fluids warm up to operating temperature
    2) Check for leaks
    3) Only after all fluids are warmed and there are no leaks - FULL THROTTLE TO REDLINE AND COAST TO IDLE
    4) Repeat Step 3 a few times (3-4?)
    5) Change oil and you're good to go

    On point, sir.

Lemme tell ya, how many engines you think my machinist has put on his dyno... and did exactly what you just described? I'm going to go with hundreds and hundreds.
Set the timing, make sure its got oil pressure, fluids are warmed up..... its hammer time, under load- its time to get tuning.

I agree with what is said here. Only part that I wouldn't worry about is change the oïl after 3-4 pulls. Like that's going to do anything...

If the engine is built correctly and cleanly (There are tons of tricks that a lot of people don't know about when it comes to cleaning/assembling an engine... its not just toss it together) the oil filter and oil shouldnt be super contaminated- but it is a good idea after a little bit to change them for safety's sake or remove break in oil.

Rebello Racing built my engine. I am sure Alex has heard of them. I followed their directions to not go to read line on a brand new engine, but to vary the rpm's for first 500 miles . And they build race engines all day long. That is all I am going to say.

Very thorough almost like a classic car restoration. Come to think if it, this car will be one of one with full build documentation........priceless!

    Finished with painting

We have finished the painting of the car and started to reassembly it (without the engine and transmission). Car is 250 km far away from the engine and transmission, so i need a trailer next week. More pics come

A whole lot of black. Big in Europe maybe, but I think this car deserved a distinctive color.

But original color is always the best choice, no matter what it is.
