HPF Back from the dead? Vivid Racing takes over the brand name? Illtech Auto Salon takes remaining inventory? What is going on? Horsepower Freaks is back...
The big story in the BMW tuning world last month was the death of Horsepower Freaks. A giant at one point Horsepower Freaks ended up closing its doors. Theories abounded as whether this was due to irresponsibility on the part of management, theft, insurance issues, lost lawsuits, etc. Members came forward with their theories and one even invested to help try to keep HPF afloat but it was not enough. Chris at HPF e-mailed and said it was true, HPF was done and the doors were closed.
So what is this? The horsepowerfreaks site works again. Well, not completely seems it was thrown up in a hurry as there are many broken images. It appears that Vivid Racing is now hosting the site as Vivid Racing's support function comes up when browsing the HPF site. Additionally, Vivid Racing basically confirmed this themselves:
Did Vivid Racing simply scoop up the rights to the name for a bargain price? It would certainly make sense as even with all this bad press what is clear is that everyone knows the Horsepower Freaks name. The domain is now owned by Vivid Racing but points to a different nameserver than Vivid Racing's own page. This means a separate site and servers keeping the HPF name its own brand still:
Ok, so Vivid Racing now has the HPF name, brand, domain name, etc. How or why this happened is unclear but certainly more will come. Additionally, what happened to Illtech Auto Salons claims of HPF making a comeback with them?
It would appear that Illtech bought the remaining inventory and will be selling it off. It appears that Vivid Racing then has the name. So, assets apparently were liquidated and in come others to scoop them up. The HPF name is back but this is not the same HPF. Where the brand heads from here is unclear we will all have to wait and see. For now Illtech has HPF products in stock and is offering services as well as support for HPF customers so they are not left out in the cold while Vivid Racing who is an expert in online parts sales will likely keep HPF as a sub-brand doing the same thing Vivid Racing already does. Online parts sales from their warehouse which HPF and Vivid Racing now share as an address.
One thing is certain, the business end of the tuning world certainly is never short on interesting developments. More on this to come.

They aren't really back though... it's not the same thing. Are we going to see BMW aftermarket part development or forced induction kits? Nope.
All we will see is the HPF name selling the same parts you can already get at Vivid Racing I would think.

I hope not. I honestly haven't ha a chance to read the article I've just skimmed through, but that would be a shame if they use the name and not bring anything else new to the market.

Interesting. I'm guessing Vivid took over the remaining inventory and all the supplier contacts. Sounds like they're just selling HPF products previously designed and no R&D on anything new?2010 e92 M3 Jet Black | DCT | ESS Tuned | Akrapovic Slip-on | Challenge X-pipe | AFE Intake | 18" Volk TE37SL | KW V3 Coilovers | RPI Scoops | Under Drive Pulley
