BMW 2014 F22 2-Series 'M235i' model to come with all wheel drive option, M235xi - Launches March 2014

Not really shocking news considering the F22 2-Series shares the F20 1-Series platform but the M235i model will be available either as rear wheel drive or as an M235xi all wheel drive model. This is how it should be with BMW offering either a rear wheel or all wheel drive option and now has the closest car to compete with the Mercedes CLA45 AMG. It's unknown if BMW will offer anything above the M235i which will come with a 320 horsepower N55 3.0 liter inline-6 turbo.

Transmission choices will be manual or steptronic automatic. If the car were to receive a dual clutch transmission that would position it much closer to the CLA45 AMG. Whether BMW elects to compete as the car sits or with a full fledged M2 model we will have to wait and see. The Audi RS3 is also waiting in the wings in this segment.

The car will launch in the USA in March of 2014. Expect the official reveal at the Frankfurt Auto Show although a leak before the show will likely happen.

I love the headlights, but you can still see a little bit of a "1" series influence in it. I'm really liking this car. Can't wait to see some more pictures and comparisons.

Man they should have done this with the E82. I can only imagine the awesomeness that could have been if my car was AWD.

Where does the 2 series fit in with the models currently available from BMW, is it a replacement for the E92/E93? Or is it actually between a 1 series coupe and E92/E93?

I like it. Might have even picked this over the E92 if it had a N54. More subtle.

Subtlety is not of question here it is where do they go with it. BMW can make a lot of things right here.

How will the make a m2 that won't hurt the m3/m4? I mean if the put a n55 in the regular car, what will they put in the m2? If the n55 is 300hp, the m3/m4 is 430, there isn't much room to fit a m2...

You make a very solid point unless they throw a 350 horsepower N20 in there....

Unless they put the "power package" at 330 hp on the car....if it's light enough it would be pretty quick

If the RS3 and CLA are stronger it will be interesting but maybe since the BMW will have the 6-cylinder that's enough to offset it. Going to be interesting that is for sure!

I would say it would be stupid for BMW to use a highly tuned inline 4 on the M2. I mean, they finally got the styling right this time on a 1/2 series, hopefully they don't ruin the overall appeal with a 4-cylinder (which would probably be ok in stock form but won't allow much in the way of tuning). I hope it will be a detuned M4 engine, because if a 6-cylinder was light enough for the 1M it should be light enough for the M2 too.

If it's lightly tuned s55 , that will confirm BMW could care less or is oblivious about tuning...any enthusiast with half a brain will want the lighter car with the same motor. Unless the m3/m4 chassis is that much better.

Basilly. And they will shot themselves in the foot. BMW never put a detuned S85 or detuned S62 in the M3 for a reason.
