Don't be a hater. Everyone knows you're an "M" nutswinger. If it's not an Sxx motor it's a POS. You have the only S65 in the 700HP realm. You can't honestly say that there won't be many more N54s closer to 1000HP than S65s. You're such a fanboy. We still love you though haha.

No I'm a realist. Fueling issues aren't even solved and people are making 1000 hp claims on paper. Come on now.

And no, I don't have the only one in the 700 hp realm or wheel hp realm and things are about to get far more interesting.

I can honestly say there will be more 1000 hp S65's because that's the truth. One step at a time.

Others have shown SOME are cast yes. Rumor was that eariler ones were forged. I thought I remembered pictures of forged pistons coming out of an N54 but I can't confirm that. My memory is fading is I grow older LOL.

So...... We cut a piston in half. I HAD to know.

Its a hypereutectic piston. My bad guys, I apologize.

just because it has a cast line doesn't mean it isn't forged. federal mogul forged pistons have a cast line.

higher line pistons don't, because they are fully machined, vs partially machined from lower line piston manufacturers.

    Hi,

I had a engine that skipped timing/broken chain and the cylinder head is useless it seems. Are you able to fix these issues with your rebuild solution? Also would the block have sustained any damaged as a result?
    Thanks!
as long as the head isn't WASTED, we can fix it.

Very nice. Hypereutectic is just a stronger cast piston, but not as strong as forged, right?

    Strength in this order:
    cast
hypereutectic (almost the strength of forged, but cheaper to make)
    forged

Isn't that piston for a N55, I don't think early N54's use the same piston.

I seem to make waves everywhere I go lol
When I worked at the dealership, I made too many waves for corporate America. They never used me to my full potential anyways.

So, screw it. I went on my own. Columbus took a chance bigger than me, why not? Lol you only live once! Be happy with what you do Click here to enlarge

i may be a one man operation right now, and don't make the mid 6 figures I made at the dealer, but no stress, I'm the boss and I like what I do (again)!

Don't get so hung up on the cast vs forged piston debate. As I keep saying, 2JZs come with cast pistons too; and there's no doubt that it can handle A LOT of power without needing to be built.

Agreed, but I'm pretty sure we've identified the weakest point. I still would recomend if someone is thinking about piston upgrades that they go the whole way with rods, bearings, machine work, etc.

@Flinchy that was an awesome link you posted with the Motec N55!!!! Im not sure if im believing my eyes....it has a turbo upgrade for sure and running on a Motec standalone successfully..

They even mention in the posts and comments that the guy who built it has also ran a Motec standalone on a N54 before too??? Someone needs to get in contact with this guy for more info...Wonder if he had an upgraded turbo on the N54 as well

    Tore apart another engine today.

I was able to remove this cassette within 10 minutes of working on it.

One of the cam bearing ledges is bad. Can you see which one? This bums me out, because they are REALLY expensive to replace.... and they WILL be replaced, because the new owner I'm sure doesn't want to mess with vanos faults Click here to enlarge

The head is a little gooey, but not super bad.

Uh oh. Do you see what I see? Bad news Click here to enlarge

Got the engine tore down. The pistons on this one show 24/06 (IIRC).... so I'm *assuming* this engine is an ultra early 2007 car..... like first engines out there.......

Eww Click here to enlarge bummer. spun rod.

Another picture. The bearing is "melded" to the rod. (my word for welded/melted)

So in any case, the story with this engine was, the turbos blew a seal (go figure! lol), The customer did not care/pay attention to the oil level condition or warnings, and it starved of oil.

It just spun the bearing a little bit. The crank can be saved very easily. I dont know if it will even need .010 to clean up.

So, another one tore down to compare stuff. Guess Ill have to dig out the other ones I have/know where they are, and see whats up with those Click here to enlarge
