That seems like a very reasonably priced kit for what you get. I would consider a stock frame upgrade, but taking on that kit seems like a losing endeavor.
it's the cost it takes to get your engine to be able to handle the III+ kit that's the killer, plus most of them fall short in performance expectations. No downpipe either, just a downturn, still need the midpipe to connect to their half-a-downpipe they offer in the kit. Their Stage 3 kit is a better offer as the power difference isn't huge and you don't need a built motor. It's at ~$600 less than the Stage 3+ kit w/ a smaller turbo and no injectors.

As for hybrids, there is a company doing Hybrid k04 (Frankenturbo), they look promising, tuning is still an issue, but they are already at a $1400 price point. Granted they do get $#@! for being "Chinese Knockoffs" but the power is pretty impressive.

    Frankenturbo, and I made a mistake, it's only $1300.

I found it, and man their website is entertaining. For now I have enough on my plate. I just got another core in today from another new untouched platform, that we are working on. I am going to leave the VAG stuff alone for now.

And the APR kits come with an Inconnel exhaust manifold on some of them (might just be the TFSI) which is insanely expensive but because they buy the material in bulk they can deliver it at a good price.

Unfortunately, it's pretty hard to compete with one of the best. If not the best tuner/hardware performance shop in the world, and I'll say it like that.

Iconnel Exhaust manifold sounds cool, but it seems like money could have been better spend elsewhere, or just lowered the price of the kit and used a high nickel content cast manifold. I have seen them go for hundreds or thousands of miles and not crack.

Just wanted to say another reason the N20 is going to be a good market is because Mini is putting the N20 in its cars. So people are going to want to mod them.

I kind of want to pick up a Cooper just to play around with.

With a JB4 and bolt ons people are seeing ~330 BHP, that is going to insane in that new mini! I might be tempted by the countryman just so I can put all the power to the ground.

Too bad they don't offer all wheel drive with the hardtop. It would be a lot of fun.

Tony, you need to look into the new, 3rd generation EA888 engines in that are coming out.... The turbo is a goofy unit, and to me, it looks like you can machine one for a quick and easy kit....Or maybe make a bracket to adapt different turbos?

Hey....Take a look at the pic and look at the exhaust "manifold" that's part of the head. It has plugs in the head, like they're planning on a dual scroll jobbie in the future.

No news right now. The N20 is pretty low on the list of things were trying to get done right nowam but the EWG control is a huge step. We will get it done once we get other things finalized.

Its a electric unit that control the waistegate position vs a vacum controlled waistgate. It sits on the turbo and push/pulls waistgate arm. EWG= electronic waistgate control.

Thank you. So with control of that it is essentially boost control right?

In theory yes but not in practice. The DME has it's set parameters so it needs to get tied up with everything but having control is important and it seems to be the future as the VAG group has also implemented this on Gen 3 motors.

It's a big step forward we'll have to see how the ECU reacts.

Anyone know how the engine would hold up? I heard some people blowing their engines with a E85 tune.

We don't really know. N20 issues have been rumored but we also haven't seen anyone pushing these far enough yet.

We've run into some interesting things with the 5+ engines we've messed with.

Lots of things have been learned the hard way, unfortunately.

We would need to get a bigger turbo on here to really push the envelope, because honestly I think they are great little engines.

I'd love to build a harness for this one as well as my N54/N55 engines, as I plan on doing swaps into other cars

Retro N20 2002 just makes me BLEED with excitement.

BTW, what is "blowing up" mean? I'm always interested in new engine failures for analysis.
Popped head gasket? We have a fix/solution for the most probable cause for that. We have head studs for these engines as well!
Broken pistons? Gotcha covered. We do aftermarket JE or Wiesco pistons.
Bent rods? Did you know we had AWESOME aftermarket performance rods for them?
