    Rooting for Galaxy S4?

Available yet? You guys always blow me away with your cell phone knowledge so what is available for the S4? My friend got one and he wants to be able to tether so I thought I would see if I could help him out.

I have not found a reason to root mine at all works flawlessly.
But if a provider limits the functionality of the phone I can see why you would want to do that.
Check http://galaxys4root.com/ on how to do this.

Or you can get him to use this, it's fairly easy: http://www.xda-developers.com/androi...ng-galaxy-s-4/

The thing is, remind him that he will lose all his precious texts, and pictures and whatever else he did with that phone. So if he'll cry about it then tell him to back all the crap up, have him plug the phone into his computer and move the photos and videos and whatever else. His contact list is safe if he uses google so once he signs into his account it will update it all.

I rooted my phone the other day. SUPER EASY. Its basically a one click tool. Look for it on xda dev. I have sprint though, there is a tool for each one. What I see posted above are not them, and I honestly wouldn't do it any other way. No losing of anything.

Yeah, don't post the link to the 1-click tool, just make a post about it:

What is the advantage in rooting the GS4?

I can tether to my phone without rooting. That was my only reason for doing it in the past.

It would be nice to get rid of all of those stupid aps i will never used and hopefully have better battery life...

Can you unroot the phone easily? This is my work phone and need to be able to use my warranty if needed. I could google but I like being spoon fed.

Yeah that kind of rules you out of the rooting phone crowd. People usually do it for tethering because they don't want to pay the extra fees that the carriers make them pay for. Also it give you better security, but you really need to know what you're doing to take advantage of that. Yeah you can get rid of a bunch of unnecessary bloatwear as well. But it does void you warranty so in your case I wouldn't recommend it.

With Verizon I tether for free with the app that came on the phone. My work is switching from apple to GS4s for this very reason for field personnel/sales team.

Is it different on each carrier? Perhaps because we have a 2 gigs of data(after that the company gets charged) and not unlimited per month? Verizon does want to charge me 3 bucks a month for visual voicemail. I may pick this up as I can't get google voice to work correctly on it.

Mine does. It has no limitations that I know of.
But it all depends on from what provider you got the phone and subsequently what options that provider has disabled in the phone's software.

I can't tether for free so it's awesome when I need it. Like when I just went on a trip and my phone offered better internet connectivity than the hotel.

I travel a lot for work and this happens all the time. Many places have $#@!ty internet and even 3g let alone 4g is better than their crap wifi.

If I couldn't tether for free I would root it. It is a must have feature for both my life and work.
