Since HPF went under (HPF 335 exhaust question)

Where can you get the blueprint or buy a HPF exhaust?

I think the guy who invested a lot of money trying to keep them afloat while the litigation was pending has all the rights. I think he's going to re-open later.

Do a full BimmerWorld 3.5" exhaust and call it a day. It's the free-est flowing exhaust available for the E46 M3.

Whats so great about the HPF exhaust? It just sounded like noise and drone.

Make your own hpf exhaust with some thin wall 3" piping, then the cheapest circular fart can muffler you can find, then be sure to pay lots of have it polished/chromed from tip to tip so everyone can admire your shiny exhaust when you flip the car.

Bam, you have yourself a hpf exhaust for the n54.

    Is this not true:

    A little math for fun...

Area of a circle: pi r2 with pi = 3.141593
    Area of an oval: pi x L x W

    4" circular exhaust diameter =12.566 in2
    4" oval exhaust (~2.75" tall and 4.375 wide) =9.449 in2
    Circle = ~33% bigger
    (12.566 - 9.449 = 3.117 / 9.449 = answer, if I understand correctly. Click here to enlarge )

    3.5" circle = 9.621 in2
    3.5" oval (~2.5"L and 4"W) = 7.854 in2
    So, circle = ~22.5% bigger

    Continued:
4" oval is ~1.82% smaller than 3.5" circle.
4" oval is ~33.67% bigger than 3" circle
    For reference, a 3" circle is 7.069 in2.

    More fun - 4" circle is ~77.76% bigger than a 3" circle.
All things to keep in mind when making a decision on exhaust size.

    ?que?

    what where and by who?

... i'll guess titanium, the moon, king of the moon (but seriously, for that price you CAN get titanium in a custom setup)

SS should set you back well <$1000

why oval? as above, tons less flow.

heck, why pie as well, no need unless you want some crazy tight bends?

Your math is flawed, when the size of the oval is 2.60" x 4.80" Click here to enlarge

so recalculate your numbers, if you could Click here to enlarge

I have a 12g 304 stainless 4" exhaust that I built on my turbo M3. It was WELL over 1200 bucks just in materials alone, and we aren't counting any labor involved (pretty complex- vband 3" off of the turbo going to 4" cone, bending around tranny with a recirculated wastegate,/vband/ 3 mufflers and tucking it up as high as possible)

so 1500 bucks does not even seen hard to hit. If I had to build it again, I could see charging at least 10 hours of fab time. its a lot of work!

remember, custom big exhaust done CORRECTLY is expensive and time consuming.
only when one is made, jigged and repeated over and over does the cost of production come down at all.... including buying bulk exhaust tubing and components, vs. one off stuff.

I just made a custom 3" race exhaust for an S52 swapped E30.
ebay headers that were 2.25", merged to a 2.5 collector, then cone out to 3", mandrel bends throughout, o2 sensor bung, and a vibrant street power muffler in the back. Exhaust hangers. Exhaust rubbers. band clamps for the merger to come off... mandrel bends. cutting. fitting. tacking. welding. warping. refitting. rewelding. painting. installing.

it honestly is a lot of work! I spent about 6 hours on that, and the materials cost about 450-500 bucks.
looks good and sounds good too though Click here to enlarge

if you're talking about turbo back inc external wastegate... that's a bit more expensive haha.. $1200 in materials though?.. i'd expect the downpipe/wastegate piping to cost as much as the catback itself.

most of the shops here do nothing BUT custom work though, even a quad exit (twin entry if wanted) custom muffler will only set you back around the $400 mark.
