Man, really sorry for the crappy videos. Thats all ive got of us racing. At the time i was runnig jb4,meth,fbo and 30% e85. It has always been a really close race. From a stop i beat him till about 80mph. In the 1/4 mile he is putting close to 3 car lengths on me. Im betting now with more e85 and meth it would be closer or i might beat him.

I think this may be the first time I've heard the Z06 referred to with bad handling, and it's really not all that thirsty either. They made the frame out of aluminum, that motor doesn't work too hard carting the body around.

The 3 is most definitely a superior car for long drives. An m3 is superior to a Z06 for those, but then again the Z06 was designed for the track. Since the demise of the N/A ///M cars, I think the Z06 is the last remaining niche for N/A V8 enthusiasts for the price range. I mean ITB's and cam work and it's to 8k rpm as well. For a blunt instrument it's pretty awesome. They put it into the Z/28 now too fwiw, but that cars still a pig.

I agree with you. I don't know much about the Z28 - but was "told" it was going to be lightweight/stripped. How heavy did it end up coming out?

That's the shameful thing about the next M3 - and I do NOT understand how people don't get it (or don't care). It has crossed my mind (re: z06) for my next car - and hold onto the M3 for fun. I love the NA LSx - tons of power, and as you said - can be efficient under the right circumstances. My buddy has a slightly tuned last gen z06, and he claims near 30 MPG at 75 - not sure if that's accurate - but I have no reason to doubt him.

    This:

There is a reason they call it the poor mans super car. Stock it blows so many things out of the water on a track or on the street.

Supposedly 3800lbs. Same as the m6 pretty much but without the nice bits, it's very stripped down. I don't know how well it will do for that reason alone, it's a heavy 4 door based chassis to begin with and they've done a good job lightening it (at the cost of comfort) but it's not a small or light coupe. A 4th gen has it by 400lbs without such drastic weight phobia, fwiw the old ls1 with 345hp beats out the 400+hp new ones, power to weight and gearing ftw. Sticky loves that topic.

30mpg may be hopeful but 26 on the freeway was easy in the '02 camaro, so I could see a bit more in a lighter more aerodynamic vette. IIRC they avoided the gas guzzler tax. Low rpm cruisers, 6th was like 1500rpm at 75 or something silly.

And that one doesn't even have the new magnetic suspension GM started offering on the 2011+z06s. The same one found on the zr1, which is an unbelievable suspension for the track and street.

My buddy with a H/C Z06 reports ~26 mpg on the highway when driving normally. Yea, 6th is just barely above idle lol.

Seems like it. This means whenever the Stingray Z06 comes, it'll even be faster. The C7 starts at $52K + upgrades! The first mod would be an LSD tho!

I am new to the BMW performance world, but have been building vettes for a long time. I have a 940rwhp turbo corvette I built and a few others between my father and I.

we recently decided to get him a 135i 6at, s bit easier to daily drive then crawling in and out of a corvette.

I'm totally sold on the 135I and will be purchasing one for myself.

that being said, this statement I'm quoting has to be one of the best I've read in years. very true.... the zo6 is an animal with a flawless power curve and torque everywhere.

I routinely saw these cars lay down 470-500rwhp in stock trim with only a cold air intake. I think upgraded turbos and some longer power band would be required to handle that broad torque curve on tap in the Z. they feel like turbo cars the way they keep pulling and it doesn't stop after 120, it just keeps on pulling and pulling.

looking forward to modding the 135I. what a fantastic vehicle.

    Chris

One of our stage 2 customers in Europe has a buddy with a Z06, when he initially emailed me, he asked will I beat able to beat a Z06 as this was hi goal, I told him it all depends on the mods the Z has and the drivers. He had never even come close to beating him before. He put our stage 2's on and Dzenno e-tuned him. Ran the guy again last night. Took him by a car, he says he will get a video to me at some point..
