Lightbulb M54 Specific intake manifold flanges - Interest?

Hey guys the past few years I have been working on items for the M54 in which will be going into my car but are/will be available to others. Drive shaft, intake manifold flange, leather custom interiors, Larger scale MAF etc...

I just had an OEM M54B30 intake manifold scanned and measured for an aluminum flange that will allow anyone to make their own intake manifolds.

If there is interest more can be made in batches, if there isn't interest I guess mine will be the only one.

Just curious if you had the exhaust scanned as well.

I would think that if someone is looking to fabricate their own M54 intake, that they would be doing the exhaust as well.

I would be interested in both, 2 each.

I would need the OEM flanges to get them done.

Let me expand by saying that the reason why I didn't go ahead with getting the exhaust done is because there are places that already had them available.

Good info, thanks for sharing that.

But....there is a marked difference between the M5X/S52 exhaust port, and the M54 exhaust port. The M54 port is smaller, and shaped slightly different. When you look at all of the flanges you've shown, the port size is larger, and in some cases looks to be machined to accept a 1.5" primary pipe. 1.5" is fine if you want to make 1000hp, but for the average street turbo setup, 1.25" is going to be fine and help with spool.

The other thing is that I often have impossibly high standards; meaning I would want the flange to be made of 316 or 321 stainless. Only one of the flanges listed above is stainless, and 304 at that which doesn't have the same heat and corrosion resistance as 316 for example. Machining SS is really tough too, often requiring feed rates and tool speeds @ 1/6th of say mild steel. This drives up machining costs....

Then there's the issue of port shape after quality porting, which wouldn't be the same as OEM. But, I can say that what I've recieved, from having a number of M54 heads ported, you'd be able to work with if the intake flange is based off of the OEM shape, and the same for the exhaust. The intake for example would just need to have a little bit of material added in the lower corners, and the exhaust width would be increases slightly, with similar height.

Boy...I really am one tough customer!

You probably already know this, but the OEM exhaust manifolds aren't the same shape as the exhaust ports.

Yes, it is cheaper for the Manufacturer to use cross platform fitments. So far there are only 2 interested parties...

No too many people are going to be interested in this but the hardcore M54 guys will be... that's a small number but you already have one of them.

I am starting to see that now. I figured with the amount of M54 engines spread over many platforms around the world there would be more then 3 guys interested.

No, unfortunately it is a very limited market.

Can you give me your model project file? Want to make my own intake SS 304 manifold.

I tried to get in touch with you on e46fanatics.com. You can add me to the list for an intake manifold flange.

Not sure if he is still proceeding with this or not.
