DCT issue tonight. Failed upshifts on an ESS 625 M3

    Info on car.

    08 M-DCT 55k miles
ESS 625 (just installed 300 miles ago)
526hp/348tq corrected (4xxhp uncorrected in colorado)

Took a buddy out for a ride tonight and had an issue come up that has me a bit concerned.

Was out and went WOT in 2nd at around 8500 (have the ESS 8600 raised redline) I hit my up-shift paddle and nothing... Didn't up-shift, just banged off rev limit for a second. I got out of the gas and hit paddle multiple times, and it went up to 7, but while it did, the DCT bars dropped from full to 3 bars on my display automatically. Tried it one more time an hour or so later when i was driving home solo, and it did the same thing again but from the 3 to 4 shift. I have never had this issue or any issues with the tranny up until tonight. The only recent changes to the car have been the ESS 625 blower and threw on some Drag radials. Outside of that, nada. Spoke with Andrew @ AR design/Alpha motorsports and he recommended a fluid change in the DCT tomorrow and he is going to call Roman @ ESS and see if he has run into this with his Supercharged M3's Has anyone had these issues before?

never heard of that. hope its something simple.

at first i thought maybe you were just tapping the rev limit- which is easy to do when boosted- and would seem like a dct issue.

not exactly sure though, the higher rev limit combined with tapping the limiter may be a very bad thing..

You hit the limiter hard. When I did that, I bent a valve spring.

Keep in mind the tach isn't 100% accurate so you need to shift slightly early.

    Does this issue keep happening?

Hrmm, yea as soon as i hit the paddle and it didn't shift i got out of the throttle. Was fooling around a bit more, and zero issues. It only happened when i brought it to 8500-8600 to shift and it wouldn't pop into next gear. Zero codes were thrown, no issues with car. Still ran strong, but needless to say, caused some concearn. I don't know if it has to do with the raised rev limit from ESS or if there may be a clutch issue or DCT issue. There is zero slip, and when im shifting at any other rpm there was no issues. I tried to replicate the issue a couple other times bringing her to between 8000-8200ish rpm and she went right into gear.

Negative, we fit the drag radials on for the races on sunday, but with this, i'm not sure i feel comfortable launching the car now with a possibly DCT issue.

get in on video, we can judge much better. i highly doubt such a new car would have issues.

I'll see what I can do. Gonna change the DCT fluid tomorrow and hope that clears it up.

If it only happens at the high rpm then it seems to be a raised limiter issue.

Yeah, fluid change tomorrow, and if that does not sort it out, we will lower limiter to 8300. Will scan for any codes as well, see what is up.

What was the reason for removing the raised limiter?

Not 100% sure, I never get on her in auto mode, so I cannot confirm if it will go that high in auto. But in manual, yes she screams to 8600rpm.

Honestly that's what I'm thinking. We'll know more tomorrow though after the fluid change. I really don't think the fluid will make a difference though.

Won't hurt, but I am not expecting miracles.... He is at 55k, and given that the car is F/I, I'd say its high time for a fluid change regardless.
