    Open Differential

I have been looking through catalogs for replacement parts. I want to find a OEM open differential that is bolted (not welded) like the early production 335s. If it is a good price then a LSD is in my future. If not, I dont think Im going to shell out $4k. Click here to enlarge

    Any help?

Shell out 4k why? An LSD plus install should not be that much.

There should a be part number for the OEM diff, I'll try to find it for you.

Yea it costs a ton because I need the aftermarket LSD which I can get for about $1,500 (Quaife) and I need a stock open differential which I found the part number and it was $1,500. Thats $3k, plus labor and taxes. Easily $4k.

You mean because of a core charge? What about your current diff?

I see, so you need a bolted factory diff and then to get an LSD?

It may help to see if anyone sells a complete diff without a core charge.

So I can just buy it? Cheaper than some aftermarket diffs. Something has to be wrong.

Nothing is wrong but it is a matter of finding someone who will get it for you at the price without tacking anything on.

I have two dealerships, one of which is a Preowned BMW/Benz dealership. I get factory parts at 30% of cost, so if I can just buy an M diff id even buy the whole assembly and just do a full swap, I just have a feeling it isnt that easy.

Well that's why I posted this thread in hopes someone who knows about it can chime in. I know a lot of people who had bolted diffs and could just buy a kit. With a welded stock diff its a lot more $$$. Its do-able but I'm not going to spend that in an e93. This car will be sold in a year or so and I don't want to dump that much cash into a part I'm not going to see come back to me.

There is a shop that is able to work on a welded diff. I don't know if you can get a whole pumpkin from them and get a core refund or if you have to send yours to them to be worked on... but supposedly they do a great job at turning a welded diff into an LSD

I can't remember the name right now though...

    You can call JE.
They can replace that welded ring gear, but you need to be local.

    Yea,
    M3 diff don't work.
Hey OP, if you send your diff to JE, they can swap out the welded gear. Call tomorrow and ask for James or Chris.

Well you would have to mail them your diff and they can replace the welded ring gear. Not sure the turnaround though.

I got a dinan LSD. Install was 4 hours. They send a new pumpkin w/ LSD and take yours. Cost was ~3k total.
