    BMW swallowing pride? 2014 F10 M5 Competition Package? Plus 15 horses to S63TU V8, revised exhaust, revised suspension, revised steering, and styling revisions

    Well seems BMW will respond to recent challenges from its competition and not just leave the M5 stagnant. The F10 M5 being a forced induction vehicle makes it relatively easy for BMW to just revise the software but it seems the F10 M5 facelift "Competition Package" will offer more than just a software change. The 15 horsepower bump will obviously be attractive and will push the M5 to a total of 580 horsepower as BMW's answer the CLS63/E63 AMG facelift with 585 optional horses.

    New 20 inch wheels will also be a part of the Competition Package. In the video below you can hear that the exhaust has been revised and the M5 finally sounds like an M car. Definitely a more throaty rumble opening up the S63TU V8 meaning BMW won't have to rely as much on synthetic engine sound to compliment the M experience. About freaking time really.

    Not only will the sound be addressed but the steering as well. One of the complaints about the F10 and the F10 M5 as well is the lifeless and over-assisted steering. Basically, the car doesn't communicate through the steering wheel as a BMW and M are expected. Interesting to see BMW finally admit this and decide to address it.

    So, maybe all is not lost at M. Clearly they are swallowing their pride and responding to the competition if all these reported changes are accurate. Good BMW, there may still be some hope for you yet.

    So add $7-$10k to the price of an M5 to get something more M-like? If they were truly swallowing their pride, this would become standard equipment level on the car, rather than a package offering. Seems like more ///Marketing and ///Money Machine to me.

    True but ateast it's a step in the right direction. Agreed, should be standard.

    The Exhaust, Suspension & Revised Steering but be a serious upgrade if you're only getting an additional 15 HP for this "Competition Package".... Sucks if you already picked up an F10 M5 and missed out on this option

    This is in line with a typical BMW refresh. Since the M cars have a longer life span in an effort to sell more cars,, the Life Cycle Impulse now includes them. The aesthetic updates have nothing to do with MB.

    The rumored power increase would be welcomed, as the new E63 AMG appears to be a four-monster. And pride most likely has nothing to do with it. Do you think the engineers at M GmbH weren't pleased to go back to work on the F10 and add a little more to it? I would venture they are.

    A 15hp increase does sounds somewhat paltry, however until someone gets it on a dyno to see how the area under the curve is affected I will hold of my judgment of bmw for only upping it by 15. for all we know there could be 50lb-ft gained in the low end of the rev range.

    This really isn't about the HP boost that's just a selling point. The suspension, steering, and exhaust changes are the big points really. For me it's about the steering feel and suspension setup more power isn't going to fix those.
