IMO he just doesn't want to deal with all those DMEs delivered to his doorstep every day. Knowing him, he's not in the business of making a profit on $100 manual reflashes when it's not a one-off transaction.

I gave him props for helping, it was unexpected for sure. Regardless, the information may be easy for you to find... but for me, anything outside my typical open source gm forums has been difficult for me to find and I'm not *that* bad at it haha. Probably hard for most normal guys even those experienced. Glad it's in more capable hands.

Can't wait to see this integrated with the upcoming android app for the jb4 (haha just kidding. No way I'm flashing the dme from my phone over Bluetooth. Well maybe.)

Open Source Tuning will be interesting, I suspect a lot of platform advancements will be made, BUT I also expect a lot of destroyed motors curtousy of people who have no idea what they're doing (especially with the attractiveness of near zero costs).

Be interesting to see how it plays out.

Boost set to max and timing advanced as far as possible. Because racecar. 87 octane Valero gas. Because poor. BOOM

I think 95% of owners will buy a 'canned' tune instead of messing with it.

Until someone can reprogram the DCT launch control your stuck with launching like that. I think its pretty consistent seeing how he was cutting 1.8-1.9s all night.

Yes, that was me. If you look at my e90post I ran three consecutive 11.9's 117 and 118 traps. Moreover, 1.8 and 1.9 60 ft. Consistent? Yes. User friendly? No.

I'd use similar names from a software (COBB gives away free) for my open source project as well. Keeps the familiarity from one software to the next, for the users. Based on the table listing posted on e90 I would hope he didn't rip it off from Vishnu. I remember shiv saying he had never seen anything to suggest that the DME has a "lean spool mode." Of course, we know from Cobb that that table exists but if Shiv uses a "lean spool switch" but doesn't think it suggests that lean spool mode exists then that scares the hell out of me that he's tuning Click here to enlarge

Not sure why everyone thinks they're going to now get amazing new discoveries in the DME...
He didn't mention your product as the one from which they took some inspiration, maybe they used other tools like Dimsport, who knows.

My hope is that via this open source project someday we will be able to use the increasingly powerful Android/iOS/WinPhone smartphones to do the flashing and logging, instead of the AP device. Because the AP is limited on many things, while a smartphone software can be continually updated with new stuff, is always connected to the Internet do download and upload maps and logs, etc. No need for a laptop anymore. Not to mention cool logging gauges, alarms when there is a timing drop, etc. things which would take forever to be implemented on the proprietary devices such as the Cobb AP.

you can blow a motor with any of the current tunes... it's a pointless statement.

if that were the case, you'd have seen a ton of blown motors already with ATR.

But the flash data is out there for those that care to find it. Open source will cut in to Cobb's market share BUT the market is growing exponentially so I don't think it will curb their revenue growth. For example we've been growing at a phenomenal rate despite Cobb taking up a large share of the tuning market. There are just so many cars out there these days looking for tuning.
