    I think we should agree that all M motors(because race) derived from racing pedigree. So yes, cylinder count does not matter. Remember BMW in F1? I am part of the "anyone" you mention and I do not think of the I6 first. I also have been working on them for 27 years.

    Not gonna debate cylinder count, but ask anyone and when you think BMW and engines, the first motor that comes to mind is a 6 cylinder.
    I don't speak to casual BMW fans. I speak with the hardcore enthusiasts who actually know what BMW has done.

    The S85 is actually BMW's most awarded motor.

    Look, I'm well aware of BMW's inline-6 history but people who focus on the inline-6 don't know BMW's engine building expertise takes many forms beyond the straight six.
