A feature all browsers need - Where is the music coming from?

Seriously, why don' they have this? If you are like me you have 108401384013 tabs and windows open at a time. There is always that one $#@!ing random tab with something playing music or an ad. I want a button that identifies said tab instantly or any tabs where music is coming from.

    Why doesn't this exist?

Open windows isn't the issue, I can do that as well, the problem is the 1 window out of all of them open that is feeding music.

Won't necessarily be flash. I just want a button that identifies what window has audio.

It can be midi in html or mp3 for example.

True that is what I do but say I want to watch a youtube video and some random window has some ad playing music... well it drives me nuts.

This is a must have feature. It's simple, press a button tabs with music are shown. It's common sense.

I agree it would be a great feature. But in the meantime you should just have one or 2 tabs open Click here to enlarge LOL

I downloaded Auidiohijack for free so I can mute anything on FF while I use another browser.

A guy from FF explained why this wasn't possible before on reddit.com.

This would be hard to do... In some browsers, each tab is associated with a different process (as opposed to the parent's process e.g. Safari). To make things harder, I am assuming that some audio is interprocess, some is not - meaning some can be handled by the browser, others might need a plugin (flash). I am sure you could easily interrogate every single process to determine which is playing audio - but my point is, it is much trickier than it sounds - and wouldn't know when it was safe to kill a process. Tricky to do it perfectly right for every browser is what I am getting at - which is probably the reason this hasn't been done right.

It looks like someone partially solved your problem though: http://techcrunch.com/2011/08/01/its-about-time/

    Cheers.

You know what? After thinking about this more - and reading how they did it (Above link) - this wouldn't be too bad. You could simply read the HTML in each open browser/tab/etc. - if there is embedded audio, mark it as possible. Color these tabs a different color, and that would at least identify what could be doing it.

Would that work as a solution?
