Macht Schnell Stage 2 Intake Charge Kit

Nice intake setup, basically the same as stock but with larger, free flowing filter and a new intake elbow. If I was still NA I would be running this along with the RPI scoops:

Designed under the idea of function over form, Macht Schnell is the first to develop a proven intake system that compliments the already efficient M3 air box. By replacing the restrictive stock filter with a larger, more free-flowing performance filter the engine is able to breathe air easier. Also replaced is the stock, accordion style intake elbow that connects the air box to the intake manifold. The Macht Schnell replacement Intake Charge Pipe (ICP) has very smooth and glossy interior walls and is 18% larger by volume, eliminating the turbulence and resistance that the stock elbow produces. The elbow is constructed from super strong polyethylene and has a textured exterior that perfectly matches the texture of the OEM intake manifold for a stock look. Included are Macht Schnell’s own Intake Charge Scoops, making a matched combo that provides maximum air delivery for your S65 engine with noticeable power gains.

I have been running this kit for around a week or so now and i have come to a conclusion that it's a great addition to my performance part of the mod list.

Back story: Before installing this intake kit, I have stock intake system combined with aFe air filter.

    Differences:

The differences are noticeable between this and the stock intake system. Look, sound, and performance gain.

From the look of it, the volume of the elbow is larger and I spoke to the guys at EAS and they verified that it is indeed larger. They tested and compared it. Apart from being bigger, it looks completely stealth with Matte Black exterior. It looks more like OEM than the stock one does... Click here to enlarge

Under hard acceleration, I can hear air being inducted loudly under the bonnet. Like what you hear in the video but louder and sexier in person, of course Click here to enlarge Not only that but as soon as the kit was installed, the car almost got louder in general since I have an aftermarket exhaust system (Eisenmann Race). Before this, I have been itching to delete my secondary cats to increase the sound level of the exhaust system and also gain some additional ponies. However, when combined with this intake kit from MS, I dont feel the need for that anymore. The car is running stronger, pulling harder and sounds incredible!

No need for RPi Scoops as the kit comes with the MS scoops.

I like the RPI design and finish alot better.

Alot of us are curious about the bigger intake elbow making power and changes to the intake sound. So far the techno and dinan haven't shown much here.

That's right but as stated the the RPI design better, in my opinion.

Technocraft has even showed losses I believe.

I don't know if the elbow makes a difference or not.

Techno and Dinan use carbon fiber for the elbow. Because of the stiffness of carbon fiber it is a challenge to get a good seal at the ends of this piece, although I've heard that Dinan is better in this repsect. Also, I've read some owners are not pleased with the quality of the Techno piece either. I believe the ill-fitting elbow has a bit to do with not realizing any performance gain in the Techno piece. It would only be worth it for underhood bling and I'm not into that sort of thing. Reports from Dinan owners are bit more promising but the cost is up there.

OTOH, I've heard that the RPI scoops alone don't add any power at all. Has there ever been any confirmation of this on a dyno? Can MS scoops be any better? BMW's intake design is pretty hard to improve upon.

I am still under the impression that an aftermarket filter (MS or AFE) is the only way to get any improvement from the intake and it's still not very much gain unless you couple this with a tune. But the price of filter alone can't be beat. Can anyone really confirm that this stage 2 MS kit is an improvement on their filter alone?

Yes there has been confirmation on a dyno including independent dynos.

The RPI scoops are a great mod and one you can feel. They don't change the BMW intake design.

I didn't mean to imply that any product alters BMW's intake design, just that the way it is designed makes it hard to improve anything since it is so good already. The thing about a mod that "you can feel" many times turns out to be based on that most unreliable of measuring devices -- the ole butt dyno. But, I haven't seen any before/after RPI scoop (or any scoop product) dynos. Can you give me a pointer where I can find these? I'm not asking for the exact URL since I know it'll probably take time for you to get that; just which forum or other general place on the internet will be sufficient. Thanks.

Think of it this way, I ran the scoops, I set a 1/4 mile record. Drew ran the scoops, he set a 1/4 mile record and 60-130 record.

    What does that tell you?

Here is a thread showing independent dyno gains: http://www.bimmerboost.com/showthrea...62WTQ-Dynapack
