Do you guys know if the N54 uses the GS20 control unit..
I don't know what it is. I just know the TCU is actually inside of the mechatronic.

    I would presume:
    1) Mechatronics units from a 6HP series transmission
    2) Basic wiring harness

but what else? Do you need a test can-bus or an adapter cable (i.e. like the BT cable for the BB DME flash project) to plug from a PC to a proprietary connection somewhere on the mech unit?

I poked around a little and found there are some test tools like this E-Zee shift ( http://www.g-tec.com/equipment/testi...ift-in-vehicle ) which can be used in-car and another on a test bench but they are about $5k. But it's pretty cool that you can just click a button on the GUI and command the mechatronic to do basically whatever you want for testing purposes.

I also came acronis a neat 6HP26 manual (attached) for a Jag application but it gives a nice overview of how the trans and mechatronics actually work with the CANbus, communication with the DME, ABS etc. Maybe not earth-shattering news but it does clearly state the mech does manage engine torque by talking over canbus to adjust timing etc (i.e. flatlining post-shift). I found it useful.Attachment 32436
You will need the mechatronics unit, the harness that connects to it, probably some of the shifter linkage sh!t, an E60 KGM gateway module, female OBD cable, lab grade power supply at 13.8v handing probably 5-10a, maybe more. I already planned to purchase these things, but again, the encryption on the TCU files is the part that is going to be difficult.

I have documented the theoretical approach already within this thread:

    - Decrypt key
    - Manipulate boatloader to allow custom code / remove validation
    - Manipulate / optimize the firmware
    - Load custom firmware
As I'm sure you know, this is much like my guide to becoming a millionaire:

    Step 1) Go to 7-11
Step 2) Buy a Megamillions ticket
    Step 3) Profit

Now, decrypting the key, that is not possible. Well, it is, but you'll never do it unless by absolutely blind damn luck. There are probably three different levels of protection, just as there is on the DME.

    1) Challenge response algorithm/secret key required to get into a programming mode on the TCU. This secret key and algorithm can probably be reversed out of existing transmission flashing software.
    2) Checksum algorithm required to apply to modified transmission binaries like the Alpina flash file
    3) RSA signature on the binaries once the checksum has been calculated. This last part, if implemented and I'd assume it is, is the part nobody is going to ever beat. So even if you flashed a properly check summed trans flash, the mechatronics won't run it. The only way around this is to use an exploit which is what is being done with the DME.

Well that doesn't sound very hopeful, but I'm not one to usually throw in the towel very easily. However, our best bet may be ""persuading" someone at BMW to leak the encryption keys. Maybe if we apply your guide to becoming a millionaire we can the buy someone off to leak it.

Or we kidnap their children and hold them for ransom. Click here to enlarge

So far no good trans option. I've been reluctant to up the power on our 135i until a solid option is out. We're definitely not a transmission shop. I was hoping SIKH's setup would prove to be solid but I hear it's anywhere from a work in progress to a thrown in the towel. Oh well.

@Terr@BMS - what kinda power is your 135 currently putting down? Just curious what you feel is a "safe" limit that you're holding at for now.

I didn't hear any updates from sikh335. But, apparently he is selling his car since he is parting out and selling his parts on e90post. I thought his car would be the first auto in the 10s.

According to FFTEC the 517 trans worked for a couple pulls then gave out, and after subsequent swaps has not been resolved. So SIKH gave up.

you should have a better shot at 10s than me for now. my car comes out of the hole very slow bcuz my lack of low end torque right now on an auto trans does not allow me to leave with any boost. Im going to try something when i get home. if it works ill hit the track lol

How are your launches in 1st gear? Log one and shoot it over. I'm also going to need some taller tires to allow more than 129mph traps. May have to drop down to 3.08 gears. We'll see.
