Nice! Perhaps I will check it out next time in LA.

I highly recommend it. I'm considering getting a place in Downtown LA just because there is awesome stuff like that.

    Do it DO IT.

I have same deal. I have a house outside Pittsburgh and an apartment downtown...finally enough cool stuff down there for it to make sense. Only took about ~14 years since I moved back. LOL.

If I had a cool thread over whiskey like this, I would totally be taking a hyper link and making a list of whiskeys on the first post, so everyone didnt have to dig through the thread, instead they would have a link with the name......

Well, a post as a whiskey reference isn't a bad idea but it would take time to compile. If this was a whiskey forum I'd have a whole ratings system up for whiskeys and where they can be purchased for what price, etc.

I like reading the updates when someone tries something new which bumps it. Maybe we can organize this better. I might make a side project for fun.

Picked up Ardbeg 10, my new-to-me favorite. Very smoky and heavy peat.

Haven't tried Aberlour yet but my trusted salesman told me its a bad The Balvenie.

The Arbeg 10 is a great whiskey although I'm itching to try the Uigeadail.

No disrespect to your trusted salesman but I think he's a little off the mark. It doesn't pack the sophistication of balvenie but to label it bad is over egging it imo.

Picked up knockando and another balvenie caribbean cask both very nice. Still for me the glenrothes select reserve tops my favourite speysides

Costco has the Oban 14 for $48 and the Lagavulin 16 for $55. I feel like I made out like a bandit.

The pub I'm at has oban 14 for $17 a pour. Having the Compass Box Oak Cross and it's lovely. Very soft and mellow with a hint of oak on the finish. Great scotch to start with.

Having the Aberlour 12 right now. Solid scotch but I wouldn't get in again.

Was about to try the old rip van winkle 10 but at $35 a pour maybe I shouldn't burn money today.

Highland park 12 year old now this truly is well worth a try the best of both worlds. 1/2 way between a fruity speyside with a slight Smokey finish that you find from a peaty islay malt.
Might not be one for a full on peat freak but very nice combination.

Its actually Highland. From what I read its supposed to be peaty & smokey not heavy like the ones from Islay. However it tastes like its from Speyside like you noted which is very confused.

It does say limited release so maybe that's where the crossover lies :-)

Quite right it is highland mixed it up with knockando! Dalmore is normally ages in American white oak bourbon casks and finished in sherry casks. Don't know about that special edition tasting notes for the normal dalmore mention spice I did get a little when I had some but only light spice at that! Regardless never nice to be disappointed with a single malt
