Buffalo Trace is the true jewel of the Bourbon Trail. Although its not technically part of the "Official" Bourbon Trail. Its a must see.

    Those are some good pics!

What did you like better, Maker's or Woodford Reserve? Maker's has more varieties to try right?

Town Branch was pretty cool also. Pretty small scale but well kept and modern.

Ever heard of Pappy Van Winkle. Buffalo Trace makes this also. If you wanna be a true baller get yourself a bottle of the 23yr... If you can find it.

Or if your on a more modest budget get a bottle of Blantons. That's legit bourbon also.

I prefer Woodford Reserve. They actually make a few very high end bourbons that most don't know about. The cool thing about Woodford is its very small batches and each batch can have its own unique flavors. Flavors can vary on many things such as where the barrel is located in the warehouse, age of the bourbon, and how many barrels are mixed together before bottling. Makers is awesome too don't get me wrong but they actually rotate barrels and mix 150-250 barrels at a time before bottling to keep flavors consistent. Its all preference I guess.

I think I'm going to have to get out to Kentucky and give this a shot. Never been to Kentucky and there is a lot of this country to explore.

This is the holy grail of Woodford Reserve. These are about $100 a bottle and are top notch bourbons.

Here is some of Wild Turkey. This property is UNREAL! Wild Turkey sits on 900 acres of private ground. Along with this the whole distilling process is done with three people... that's right 3. They also have over 500,000 barrels of ageing bourbon.

Nope there is a half dozen distilleries within 20min of Lexington.

Here is a map of the "official" distilleries of the Bourbon Trail. There are a ton more places than whats listed here. The drive from Lexington to Louisville is only about an hr and a half so you can get around easily.

    http://kybourbontrail.com/map/

Buffalo Trace is located in Frankfort, KY which is close to Lexington also.

Forgot about this place. Downtown Lexington, we found this place. They specialize in high end bourbons (not pictured) but this bar was too nice looking to not shoot a picture. We got to know the bartender and he ended up serving us about $400 in free bourbon through out the night. Best part was we were drinking happy hour specials $2.50 bourbon/7up. Needless to say he got a healthy tip. Click here to enlarge

The other thing about Lexington thats cool is a city of 300,000 feels like a small town. Something I have never experienced before. Most places are closed Sundays and everyone is in slow motion down there. It drove me nuts the first couple of days but I could get used to it. Kinda nice slowing down and relaxing.

A few shots from Jim Beam. I didnt have a chance to do the official tour but we did walk around the grounds.

We stayed in Bardstown, KY for a couple nights also. We were told by everyone locally to eat at The Rickhouse. Its a nice steak house with a ton of bourbon selections. And the best part is most of the bourbon is cheap. To give you an idea I think the most I paid for Makers Mark was $4.00.

Jim Beam have anything interesting? I thought it was just basic stuff.

Considering what I paid this past weekend I'm ready for cheap.

Jim Beam is the largest bourbon distillery in the world. They make good lower dollar bourbon nothing to really write home about. I really like Buffalo Trace bourbon ~$20 per bottle so thats my go to bourbon. Cool thing is Buffalo Trace and Eagle Rare are both the same recipe just stored in different places of the warehouse and Eagle Rare is aged a bit longer and a single barrel so its not mixed like Buffalo Trace.

If you wanna have some good fun my new "im a cheapass" drink its called Vodoo. Its cheap vodka and diet mountain dew. Its really good and super cheap. I buy our local Hawkeye vodka for $10.99 per 1.75L and a 2L Diet dew. Its so good when it hits the lips.. give it a try!
