well, the Jameson is good. I like it. It's a man's whiskey.

my review: good note, kinda aggressive and woody. very complex, and somewhat fruity? long lasting after taste. Would I spend nearly 300 bones for it? not again.

Amazing for Irish Whiskey. you'd think its scotch, its really an amazing drink, now that I'm half way through a glass.

I think I would dabble in scotch again though....

Let me start off by stating these are only my personal opinions but went through a few glens today.

    1. 12 year old glenfiddich their signature malt. Yuk imo totally overrated for the best selling malt I would expect so much more.

    2. 15 year old glenfiddich from the solera vat. Much much better far superior to the 12 year old but still not impressive.

    3. 14 year old glenfiddich rich oak. The best of the three.

In summary never again on any of them. Happy now to be back onto the talisker storm and ardbeg.

I actually like the Glenfiddich 12. I find it much better than the Glenlivet 12.

That said, it's not the best Scotch in the world but in a pinch...

    Just saw this article today:

    http://bourbonandoak.com/2014/08/06/...bons-under-30/

5 best bourbons under $30. I've had all of them but the old grand dad and I can't disagree with any on their list. Great values.

Nice link Richpike. I need to try the Wild Turkey.

I've been so drained this week I think I'll go buy a nice bourbon today.

Try the Maker's Mark "46" a very interesting taste that is hard to describe, but very unique amongst any scotch, whisky, or bourbon you can name.

    http://sourmashmanifesto.com/2010/08...k-46/#comments

It is great for the first couple of shots, but for a sit down draining half a bottle or more to catch up with an old friend, I still prefer the more expensive 15-yr single malt Glenfiddich which is smoother with no over bearing flavors or after tastes.

The lower priced Makers Mark standard " Kentucky Straight Bourbon" Whisky is not as bland as this reviewer mentions and is a hit with any Scotch or Bourbon drinkers that come and visit (a slightly bitter after taste but only when you stop drinking it, LOL)

Was buying Coke (and tacos) and saw Wild Turkey 81 for sale for $19.99. Bought it and sipping it now. Let's see how it is...

I'm starting to wonder if I should have gone for the 101. I just couldn't pass up the $19.99.

Yep. The benefit of the higher proof is it can mellow out a bit on ice and still taste great.

Yeah the 81 is a bit too mild for me but it's nice. 101 next time it is.

If you are in to Bourbon, you've probably heard of Pappy Van Winkle and how much demand there is for it. Some of the Van Winkle versions going for thousands of dollars a bottle, distributors limited to a few cases or even bottles, twice a year. Pretty crazy. I ran across this article talking about the black market that is developing around it and thought it was interesting:

Don't blame you. I've never had it, but it sounds like there are similar options for less. But it is a great case study on supply (limited) and demand (high).
