    Police Countermeasure Thread- Radar/Lidar/Jammers/Etc

    Hey BB,

Just wanted to start a thread where people can show off and discuss their radar detectors/laser shifter setups.
Ill start it off with my recent purchase:
    Escort Passport 9500ix

Ill post my review after a few months of using it. Im ordering the hardwire kit soon and will post up a DIY on how to hardwire it into the fuse-box.

What are you guys using? How successful has it been? What have you used in the past?

Been running Valentine Research V1 for quite a few years now, hardwired into whichever car I was driving at the time. It has paid for itself many times over for how many times it has saved me from getting a ticket. I typically don't go anywhere without it. I do gotta note that it has failed me twice, once due to the cop shooting instant on, and once because of laser; a little more common sense and a laser jammer is in my future Click here to enlarge

One of it's best saves was the second day I had the thing. I was on my way home from work and happened to pick up a few followers behind me while working my way through traffic. So far the V1 hadn't made a peep, not a stray K or X, nothing; Haha I thought the thing might have been a waste of money. After a little bit, it seems like the lady behind me was getting impatient, and was riding so far up my ass she could probably tell what I had for lunch. Speed up some more, still up my ass; We're blowing pass traffic now (2 lane highway, 55mph limit) at a pretty decent clip, maybe around 75.

Suddenly a loud fckin ka-kack from the V1, HOLY S#%, 4bars on Ka and rising; looking at where I was on the highway, I guessed the cop was in one of the nooks bout 1/4mi up and around the bend. I slide on over to the right lane and slowed a bit; she blazed on by me at the end of the bend doing over 80. Couple hundred feet down the road and BAM! Statey buried among the trees! Hahaha I see him tear ass out of his hidey hole and down the highway past me. See his lights disappear over the hill and think to myself too bad, won't know if he got her since my exit was coming up. 1/2mi down the road to my exit and wouldn't you know it, he busted her on the off ramp. I slow roll by and wave at her with a $hit eating grin on my face :3

Running just a hardwires Valentine V1 -- It's def been great & saved my ass multiple times (cops camping out w/ their radar just on auto)

I'm not running Jammers on my current car, but I'm thinking on the next toy it'll be a necessity to get a Radar/Jammer system that works together

Haha awesome story! I debated between the V1 and the 9500ix and couldnt decide. I talked to an Escort salesman and i was sold haha. Ive been looking at YouTube videos of V1 vs 9500ix and it always seems to be a wash, with a slight edge to the V1. The Escort Redline seems to be the absolute winner for highways, but my commute is 95% city driving. Lets hope.mine works as well as yours has Click here to enlarge Any experience with Escorts?

What laser jammers are you looking into getting? I like the ZR4s because they can work alongside the 9500ix, but ive heard that they might not be the strongest. Laser Interceptors?

Anyone have experience with the 9500ix? I hope i dont regret not getting a V1

As far as laser goes I've heard nothing but good things about the Laser Interceptor, they actually make a BMW specific kit that fits right inside the kidney grills, @LostMarine actually has it so he can provide a better insight than I can.

As far as V1 vs 9500ix goes, I've owned both. Although the V1 does have a ton of false alerts, you KNOW when its not a false alarm. But when I owned my 9500ix there have been a few times when I was on the highway and I know for a fact I was getting shot with radar/laser, and the 9500 didn't even pick it up. So I have to tip my hat to the V1 because even when I was getting hit with laser (usually with laser once it pops up on your detector its already too late) the V1 still picked up the laser signal.

Best defense against cops is either don't speed or watch other peoples tail lights. But if I was to buy either a V1 or a 9500ix, I wouldn't hesitate to get a V1 again.

For someone that does nearly 100% city driving, would you suggest against the 9500ix? Did your 9500ix disappoint you as a purchase? Hope i didnt choose the wrong detector Click here to enlarge

I have the 9500ix with escort live, hardwired into the light.

Works great, I cant believe I didn't have one sooner, I would have never gotten a ticket for going 10 over while not paying attention (which was all 3) , Live still needs more people, but I think we have 4-5 local in the area.

I hardwired it into a light that power goes out of once the car shuts off.

While city driving with my 9500ix I honestly thought the thing was broke because an alert almost never went off which was kinda nice because it wouldn't go off for stupid things such as alarm systems and automatic doors. Sometimes I really honestly thought the thing took a dump and I had to replace it. V1 actually sells an add-on to the V1 system which uses a module that plugs into your obd port, you can set it to not give off any alerts while your under a certain speed (user definable). It's called the "Savvy" and goes for about $69. If you do a ton of city driving then I would definitely pick the "Savvy" module up.

Just did a bunch of research on google and it seems that the 9500 is better for my city situation. Its detection is equal to or slightly less than the V1, but wont give me falses (common around my neighnorhood due to CVS Wallmart Wallgreens etc). The problem with having falses is assuming a beep is a false when its really not.

Ill keep the 9500ix and see how i like it.

@E90SoFlo how has your detection rate been? What band do you find our cops use most? Ka?

I was in the same boat and pretty much flipped a coin since they appeared even in the reviews. At the time iirc only the 9500i was out, not the xi, but even then they ranked pretty evenly. Haven't tried an Escort yet but might pick one up for my DD, getting tired of swapping the V1 back and forth.

Looking to get a Laser Interceptor. Was originally thinking of a Blinder setup but the Guys of Lidar review/comparison showed the Laser Interceptor performing a bit better. The review is a little old though, not sure how they stack up now.

I would go with the Laser interceptors for laser jamming. Havent heard anything negative about them before. My buddy even has a K40 and its worked somewhat well. Id trust my 9500ix more than a K40 though....

Cops in our area only run KA (99.99999%) or K (cape coral cops run K).

I use highway mode 100% of the time, and if there is a cop running radar, I will know 1/2mile before I arrive. Its really quite amazing.

    For example.

Cops usually run radar on 41/Daniel's, I will pick up the radar at 41/gladiolus.

I might get 1 false hit a week. The memory feature is amazing.

9500ix has been flawless for over a year with me, i never had false alerts.. they may have been far faaar away, but never a false. i do keep it on auto no x though. Ive never had a situation where ive been/know i have been tagged and it not go off.

I also have the LI jammers.. Paid for themselves at least 10x over now.. last one was actually coming back from midnight runs with the sledge/squeze/ultimate, ect. 3 am and all hell breaks loose alarm wise will surely wake you up.. 3/4 mile down the road you see the trooper.. yea, well worth it.

A difference of opinion on how to mount them. i have the old heads horizontal, and "visible". I firmly believe in "hide the car, not the install" but having black/black, its not very obvious until your up on the car. I know people with them behind the grilles, and i would only trust that at about 80% personally.

They do have the latest heads that can be vertical and mount inside your grill, I want these, but your grill MAY need to be trimmed to fit them.. BUT, it would be the cleanest setup with maximum protection. I know AK has 2 old heads, and 2 new heads. With how NJSP is these days, we need to consider mounting a rear. He is going to use 2 new in the front and 1 in the rear, and i believe offering me 1 to do the same. Its just for good measure.

So, I would HIGHLY suggest getting them. after hearing of friends having to go to court for 3digit mph tickets, and HEAVY fines.. it WILL pay for itself if you ever have even one day of bad luck..

I cant comment on any other brand, but Laser Interceptor, has been good to me

V1 user here for 12 years. Over that time, I've had two tickets; both were instant on in situations where I couldnt see the cop, and I was the only car on the road in the area. The number of saves I've had in that time pay for it many times over.

As for the false alerts, you can turn off the X band and eliminate 95% of these falses. I can't remember the last time I saw a cop using X band equipment. If I get popped for it, I'll consider it expense for fewer falses. Click here to enlarge

Glad to hear the 9500ix is working well for you. I plan on just leaving the detector on highway in the city. Any reason not to? Id rather have a few extra falses than not catch a signal.

I've took my V1 and GoPro on the plane for Performance Center Delivery in SC. No issues at all with either.

Highly recommended if you have the chance. Any time you are allowed to abuse someones BMW, it's always a good time.

If your tired of a lot of falses, then yes. Otherwise i wouldnt consider the 9500ix any superior as far as radar/laser detection goes. It just has a lot more features.
