I 100% never said that. I said he can wrap it to try to keep the heat down. People were freaking out because he had bare pipes up there and I knew he was going to be wrapping it. If I was him I would make a heat shield for all those wires. Those pipes will glow orange and the wrap can only do some much. For stage 3 we made a full heat shield out of thick aluminum and put reflect-a-gold on it to keep all the radiant heat reflecting back down away from the engine bay.

Wrapping it up is always a good idea, but in certain circumstances, additional protection may be required.

In all seriousness, it is looking good. Can't wait to see it fired up.

Bloke i know had a fairly standard 335i [ well compared to some of the levels you guys run] just a JB4 and exhaust. He also had a nice Carbon bonnet that after a few 1000 miles was not as straight as it once was, all from running with the engine cover off!

Another reason the shop needs to fire this up and make sure everything is kosher imo.

You could try a turbo blanket on each pipe if you can get one to fit on and cover enough area, then as Vargas said make a heat shield. I would probably take it one step further and wrap the wires in a thermally reflective cloth.

No one wants to break down in mexico doing long back to back runs because they melted a wiring harness.

Also how close down the hood close on those? You might end up with a blemish on your hood over time from the intense heat in one area but then again maybe not what do I know.

edit: Can you fit the stock cover back on or will you run with it off/modified?

Really in the scheme of something as complicated as single turbo conversion, a heat shield for wires is so simple it's probably just a technicality that'll be put on at the very end, you know right before they put the engine cover on

Not long.. im at work in alaska now still. The shop is working on the oil/coolant lines and fittings now. Basically wrapping things up and they will fire it up soon. I think i should drive it home around the end of this month, but sadly i will have to shortly thereafter return to work for 2 weeks up here.

    Looks great man!

Still very interested in how you are going to tune it.. I think it will involve some witchcraft to get the ecu to play nice, even with cobb. I may have missed it but did you have the shop install an upgraded map sensor?

How long and how many stops does it take to get from Alaska to Florida? It's gotta be like a whole day of traveling.

God and I complain about flying to California from the east coast. What do you do up there is you haven't already stated it? From google maps that looks like the middle of no where. Do you do two weeks on two weeks off or something?

Edit: From google maps there are some strange buildings/fields in the area...

So you literally live in one of the warmest, sunniest cities in the U.S. and work in one of the coldest. The climate change doesn't get much more extreme than that!

Ahh so that is what all of those pipes in the fields are. If I had a 2 on 2 off like you basically 1/3 of the way around the world I would have to have two girlfriends. Is there anything to do around there when you arn't working? Like is there only like two bars or something? Anything fun for recreation other than hunting and drinking?

    Sorry to go OT.

its ok haha.... no just work 12-14 hours a day 7 days a week, no bars or alcohol up here. I get a little fishing in the summer time. it's a remote location as you could see with the nearest civilization being Fairbanks. barely any girls up here, none worth pursuing haha.
